Saturday, August 12, 2006 UN ceasefire proposal & Catholics offer $10m As we wait to see what will happen to that ceasefire proposal (even though the Israeli ground assault has widened), here is something that does my Catholic heart proud (via Lebanon Daily Star): Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, former Archbishop of Washington and member of Catholic Relief Services has pledged $10 million to the crisis, which includes rehabilitation programs in Gaza, northern Israel, and Lebanon. In order to bring internatl attention to the crisis here, the Cardinal has brought his own team of experts who can relay the necessary info back to the West. "We have great photographers and writers w/us who have access to the right outlets in the US & Europe, in order to make sure the rest of the world really understands the suffering the Lebanese are going through. I think this is important because I don't think people understand the seriousness of the humanitarian crisis here." Amen Cardinal. Amen. |
