Did Papa Bush try to run Rummy off?

Who'd have ever thunk it? If this is true, then former Prez Bush Sr may really have a grasp on what a clusterfuck Iraq has become AND what an incompetent ass his son really is when it comes to being The Decider (via Salon): George H.W. Bush waged a secret campaign over several months early this yr to remove Sec of Def Rumsfeld. The elder Bush went so far as to recruit Rummy's potential replacement, personally asking a retired four-star general if he would accept the position. But the former prez's effort failed, apparently rebuffed by the current pres. When 7 retired generals who had been commanders in Iraq demanded Rumsfeld's resignation in April, the younger Bush leapt to his defense. "I'm the decider and I decide what's best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain," he said. His endorsement of Rummy was a rebuke not only to the generals but also to his father." Ya know, given that W ran every business he had into the ground, shouldn't Papa always expect failure from his boy by now? And if W really did jump up and yell at Pops like that, how immature can ya be? Sheesh... this disfunctional Bush crime family is so King Lear, no? Maybe Papa is just pissed that Sonny-boy has destroyed the CIA, which holds such a soft spot in Pappy's tiny black heart.
