Shooting women and children is moralizing at arm's length, too

I couldn't help but use the image of this bumper sticker, courtesy of Carry a Big Sticker, for this post. Read this "war is Hell, so get over the massacre" op/ed from the WashPost (the only thing missing from this piece is a big Neo-Con explanation of why My Lai was just "a big misunderstanding"), and then watch this 22 mins clip from BBC News. The clip was first broadcast on March 29, 06 as a reporter followed a group of Iraq Vets who marched from Alabama to New Orleans to protest the war. Honestly, I don't know who I want to cry for more after watching this clip: The city of New Orleans, which looks like it is a bombed out war-torn city, or these veterans, who speak of unspeakable acts, some of which they themselves committed. The wingnut War Fans' attempt to excuse indescriminate killing of civilians disgraces the troops who served and refused to allow themselves to become barbarians. Making excuses and covering it up doesn't honor our military in any way, shape, or form, and it only further disgraces our nation (as if our own President and his cabal haven't done a bang-up job of that already). The only honorable thing we can do for our military is to not tolerate criminal behavior of any kind. Watch the BBC clip... I fear that this behavior was expected, not the exception.
