Thursday, May 18, 2006 Do NOT click on Don't Regulate.Org I have a new side link urging you to sign a petition for Net Neutrality via Save the Internet.Com. Net neutrality is simply the principle that net users should be able to access any web content they choose, w/o restrictions or limitations imposed by their Internet service providers (such as AT&T, Verizon, BellSouth). The Net Neutrality bill, has been introduced by Dems, is supported by Google, Yahoo, Microsoft and other Internet giants, & will help prevent us from being at the mercy of the internet service providers in terms of cost & content. I subscribe to The Nation, and after reading this article: "Don't Click on this Ad" I was certain I absolutely must put the side link to the petition on my blog. The Nation article warns us about a sneaky and misleading ad that urges readers to "say no to govt regulation of the internet" but is in fact against Net Neutrality: "Please don't click on it b/c it is an attempt to hoodwink Internet users w/a cutesy cartoon at this site: www.dontregulate.org. It is a clever piece of industry propaganda that is riddled with half-truths and conveys a fake populist message that sounds plausible BUT is actually a deceptive campaign created by high-priced consultants and paid for by the cable and phone industries to build opposition to the Net Neutrality bill. Companies like AT&T, Verizon, BellSouth are spending millions every wk to mislead and misinform the American public through tricky ad campaigns such as these at Don't Regulate.Org and Hands Off.Org." Repeat: Do NOT click on nor visit these ads/ sites, but instead click on/ visit this site: Save the Internet.Com and please sign the petition. |
