Monday, September 11, 2006 Of course the Senate Intelligence Report says NO connection between Saddam & al Qaida... but BushCo has lies to spread On Sept 11, 2001, Bush introduced the so-called Bush Doctrine(via Think Progress): "We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them." Declassified portions of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s Phase II report released on Friday make definitively clear that Iraq never qualified for inclusion in the Doctrine b/c Saddam and al-Qaida were enemies, not collaborators. Here’s what the report says: 1) Bin Ladin generally opposed collaboration with Baghdad. (p. 65) 2) Saddam did not trust al-Qaida or any other radical Islamist group and did not want to cooperate with them. (p. 67) 3) The Iraqi regime issued a decree aggressively outlawing Wahabism in Iraq and threatening offenders with execution. (p. 67) 4) Saddam did not like bin Ladin because he called Saddam an “unbeliever.” (p.73) 5) Debriefings of key leaders of the former Iraqi regime indicate that Saddam distrusted Islamic radicals in general, and al Qaida in particular… Debriefings also indicate that Saddam issued a general order that Iraq should not deal with al Qaida. No postwar info suggests that the Iraqi regime attempted to facilitate a relationship with bin Ladin. (p. 105) 6) Saddam attempted, unsuccessfully, to locate and capture al-Zarqawi and that the regime did not have a relationship with, harbor, or turn a blind eye toward Zarqawi. (p. 109) Now, that Senate report info seems pretty cut and dried that Saddam and al-Qaida were NOT in cahoots.... BUT... surprise! surpise!... Cheney and Condi were out in full force on Sunday spewing their endless lies about Iraq and al Qaida: Crooks & Liars has the unbelievable Cheney appearance on Meet the Press: "Cheney tried to spin that there wasn’t a connection between Saddam and 9/11 while trying to make a connection (yeah I got dizzy watching it). When Russert brings up the Senate Intelligence Comm report, Cheney’s excuse is "I haven’t seen the report yet". This is hard to buy when you got a report released by the Repub controlled Senate that can be an indictment against the admin for their failures leading up to the war in Iraq and one of the key people in the report "hasn’t seen it." Strange... but how exactly does a regular-guy like Billmon find the time to analyze the Senate report and even blog about it yet the Vice Pres of our nation hasn't even seen it? Watch Condi's spin and spew on Fox News via Think Progress. Oh yeah... she also claims that she simply doesn't remember seeing a Defense Intelligence Agency report from Feb 2002 (before the US invasion ) that also concluded that Iraq and al Qaeda had no relationship. Guess what asshats? Not that I believe for 1 single second that you honestly haven't seen these reports, but YOUR job description requires you to see these reports. That is what we the people pay you to do. Now why don't you try to do your God damned job and stop whoring out America for your twisted agenda? |
