Friday, September 08, 2006 Former Iranian prez Khatami says let's talk diplomatically. Bush says: What's that? Former Iranian Pres Khatami (a 2-term Iranian president once seen as the harbinger of moderation and better relations w/ the US-- unlike his replacement uber fundie Mahmoud Ahmadinejad) is currently in the US, and of course, Bush again refuses to meet or speak to him b/c that might further expose Bush as the giant fumbling f-ck up we all know he is: "Under Khatami's leadership, Iran offered in 2003 to accept peace w/ Israel and to cut off material assistance to Palestinian armed groups and pressure them to halt terrorist attacks w/in Israel's 1967 borders, according to the 2 pg Iranian proposal that was sent to the US in late April or early May 2003." The proposal, which called for a broad Iran-US agreement, covered all the issues that are separating the 2 countries, yet Bush refused to speak/meet w/Khatami let alone acknowledge that this Khatami govt proposal was even sent to the US. Now current Iranian prez Ahmadinejad says that Israel should be "wiped off the map" and that the Holocaust was a "myth". But here are the kind of things that Khatami says: "Even now I believe that relations between our 2 respective govts should be resolved thru dialogue," and "Using violence by every side and violent language by every side is not conducive to dialogue and it will increase and exacerbate the problems," and this: "I do not deny the existence of problems in Iran, but I would certainly say those are not worse than the violations in places like Abu Ghraib & Guantanamo. Let’s condemn the violation of human rts wherever it takes place." Oh yeah Dubya... let's NOT talk to the guy who makes sense, is moderate, offers peace and is NOT a foaming at the mouth fundie... that just might force you to be diplomatic-- which is exactly what being a president requires of you-- and would show us Americans that not every Iranian and Muslim is a bloodthirsty theocrat. We can't have that. Lord knows you gotta have your boogeymen to scare us with as you and your GOP's poll numbers circle the bowl. |
