Monday, October 23, 2006 Duncan Hunter asks Pentagon to Un-Embed CNN Reporters... freedom of the press my ass Last wk, on "Anderson Cooper 360," a video (which came to CNN thru contact w/an insurgent leader) that showed insurgent snipers targeting US soldiers was broadcast. CNN producer David Doss acknowledged that the video could be shocking to some viewers, but he wrote on Thurs that the network televised the footage in an effort to present the "unvarnished truth" about the Iraq war. Well... guess what? The unvarnished truth simply just won't do in BushWorld: In a letter to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) wrote: "CNN has now served as the publicist for an enemy propaganda film featuring the killing of an American soldier." Hunter is the the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and he asked the Pentagon on Friday to remove CNN reporters embedded with US combat troops, saying the network's broadcast of a video showing insurgent snipers targeting US soldiers was tantamount to airing an enemy propaganda film. The letter was also signed by GOP congressmen Darrell Issa and Brian Bilbray. "This is nothing short of a terrorist snuff film," Bilbray said at a press conference held in San Diego. Here's a novel idea: How about we un-embed our troops from Iraq? Or maybe we could embed Hunter, Issa, and Bilbray in Iraq so they could see and report firsthand on all the "good news" that is simply overflowing in Iraq yet that our oh-so "liberal media" refuses to report upon? And call me crazy... but I seriously doubt if any American who has been paying attention for the last 3 and half years is shocked to learn that somebody in Iraq has been shooting at our troops. If not, how have almost 3000 been killed and 20,000 been injured and/or maimed? I'm sure if Rove & the Repukes thought they could get away with it, they'd float around a theory that "crazy cut and run happy liberals" have been shooting at our troops in Iraq. |
