Thursday, June 22, 2006 Voting Rts Act of '65... Tossed by GOP The GOP = Racists. Period. End of discussion: "The nation's most successful civil rts law, the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which has enjoyed bipartisan support in Congress for over 40 yrs and has been reauthorized 4 times by both Dem & GOP presidents, was derailed Weds in the House. A small group of House Repukes, incl Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA) hijacked an important vote to renew key protections in a law that has changed the face of Amer politics. Ya remember Westmoreland, no? He is the guy who wants the 10 Commandments on display in the House of Reps & in the Senate, yet when asked by Stephen Colbert to name all 10 of the Commandments, he can only "piously" name 3. What is the problem w/ the VRA of '65? The group of Repukes claims that it is punitive." "The reversal represented a significant embarrassment for the GOP leadership, which had promised a vote to extend the act, the '65 law that is credited w/ ending rampant discrimination at the polls and electing black officeholders throughout the South." Hey GOP assclowns: Wanna know what is actually punitive? Nasty racist electoral fraud in the '04 election and in the 2000 Sup Crt presidential "selection" in the very Southern state of FL. Let these despicable Good Old Boys hear from us about their odious vote. |
