Monday, May 22, 2006 Louisiana Dem William Jefferson: If he did the crime, let him do the time It makes no difference to me if the politiican is a Dem or a Repuke: If they committed a crime, let them have a fair trial and then do the time if the trial deems it so. And although she is not my fav Dem, Nancy Pelosi agreed w/my pt of view back on May 5th when she called for an investigation into Rep Jefferson's activities. CNN: "Jefferson has been under investigation for bribery and was caught on videotape accepting $100,000 in $100 bills from an FBI informant whose conversations w/ the lawmaker also were recorded. Agents later found the cash hidden in his freezer. At one audiotaped meeting, Jefferson chuckles about writing in code to keep secret what the govt contends was his corrupt role in getting his children a cut of a communications company's deal for work in Africa." I feel the same way about this as I do about Tom DeLay: If Jefferson did the things he's accused of, then let the chips fall where they may and he can be punished for his crimes. But seriously... this is Louisiana. I stayed a spell in NOLA. 1 thing was clear: Corruption & politics in LA goes hand in hand. How else can the corrupt cops, the NOLA shakeups, and the tribulations and assassination of Huey Long be explained?... (personally, despite some flaws, I think Huey should be sainted.) |
