Thursday, May 25, 2006 Dennis Hastert: #1 recipient of Abramoff Money Apparently, Hastert may want to sing "If I only had a shredder" instead. Despite being the number 1 recipient of Abramoff money, and despite Hastert saying the story is "absolutely untrue" and demanding ABC retract its story, ABC is standing by their Hastert/ Abramoff story and backing it up w/ this: "Law enforcement sources told ABC that convicted lobbyist Abramoff has provided info to the FBI about Hastert that has broadened the scope of the investigation. "You guys wrote the story very carefully but they are not reading it very carefully," a sr official said. Imagine all that will ya? A politician who is incapable of reading something carefully. And the very story in question? It is this (via ABC): "Fedrl officials say the Congressional bribery investigation now includes Dennis Hastert, based on info from convicted lobbyists who are now cooperating w/ the govt. Part of the investigation involves a letter Hastert wrote 3 yrs ago, urging the Sec of the Interior to block a casino on an Indian reservation that would have competed w/ other tribes. The other tribes were represented by Abramoff. The letter was written shortly after a fund-raiser for Hastert at a restaurant owned by Abramoff. Abramoff and his clients contributed more than $26,000 at the time." Of course, Denny denies any wrongdoing. But maybe we know why he is so up in arms over the FBI raid on Jefferson's office and why Hastert is demanding that the FBI return the documents taken in the raid, no? |
