Bush & Blair's Deal: Go Into Iraq NO Matter What

Cartoon courtesy of AtlanticBlog. Fabulous, no?
GuardianUK: A WH meeting on 1/31/03 between Bush and Tony Blair took place in which Bush revealed that the US intended to invade Iraq whether or not there was a 2nd UN resolution and even if UN inspectors found no evidence of a banned Iraqi weapons program. Phillipe Sands, a professor of internatl law, revealed the memo in a new edition of his book, Lawless World. Prof Sands last yr exposed doubts shared by British Foreign Office lawyers about the legality of the invasion in disclosures which eventually forced Blair to publish the full legal advice given to him by Att Genl Lord Goldsmith. The new smoking gun reveals a flagrant violation of internatl law. Waging war under such circumstances constitutes a breach of the Nuremberg & Geneva codes and the UN Charter, which legitimize such action only in clear and present danger situations involving self-defense. Bush's deceit and lawlessness were further exemplified when he told Blair that the US was so worried about the failure to find hard evidence against Saddam that it considered "flying U2 reconnaissance aircraft planes with fighter cover over Iraq, painted in UN colors." Bush's rationale was that "If Saddam fired on the planes, he would then be in breach of UN resolutions". Truly, how do these 2 ghouls sleep at night? And yet both routinely brag about being evangelical Christians and men of faith.
