Friday, February 03, 2006 Scholars Respond to Bush's Illegal Spying A group of 14 notable law scholars (ranging from distiguished law professors to the former dir of the FBI) have written a response to the DOJ's 1/19/06 Memo justifying the Bush Admin's warrantless searches of Americans purportedly pursuant to the Authorization for Use of Military Force and the War Powers provision of the Constitution. Well, these scholars ain't buying what the DOJ is selling: "The Dept of Justice's initial letter justifying the Bush Admin's Act (December 19, 2005), continues to advance the same flawed arguments, and only confirms that the NSA program lacks any plausible legal justification." See the entire PDF here. I'm sure Bill O'Reilly will spin this into this kind of war: "These are just liberal scholarly elites waging a war against our safety folks."... hurl... gag... vomit. |
