Monday, July 11, 2005 Sensenbrenner Demands Longer Sentence in Case Chicago Tribune: Why am I not shocked to see that Rep Sensenbrenner (yes, the Big Baby w/the Gavel & also the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee) privately demanded last month that the 7th US Circuit Crt of Appeals in Chicago change its decision in a narcotics case because he didn't believe a drug courier got a harsh enough prison term? The Big Baby wrote a 5 pg letter dated June 23 to Chief Judge Joel Flaum, asserting that a June 16 decision by a 3 judge appeals crt panel was wrong. Why? B/c a drug courier in a Chicago police corruption case received a 97 month prison sentence instead of the 120 months required by a drug conspiracy statute. The Big Baby's attorney said: "We can't have judges violating the law." THOSE DAMNED LIBERAL JUDGES are at it again!... snark... Yeah, but what about this: Some legal experts believe the action by Sensenbrenner (an attorney & the Judiciary Committee chair) is a violation of House ethics rules, which prohibit communicating privately w/judges on legal matters, as well as court rules that bar such contact w/ judges w/out contacting all parties... but that doesn't count b/c the rules only apply to people the GOP has a beef with. |
