Monday, June 12, 2006 Eye witness claims troops beat dying Zarqawi So we're all familiar w/the machismo fest over Zarqawi's death, but what about this Via nbc4 in Columbus, Ohio: "An Iraqi man who was one of the 1st people on the scene after the airstrike that led to the death of Zarqawi told Assoc Press TV that he saw US troops beating a man who had a beard like the al-Qaida leader. The witness said he saw the man lying on the ground, badly wounded but still alive. He said US troops arriving on the scene wrapped the man's head in an Arab robe and began beating him. His account cannot be independently verified. The spokesman for the US forces in Iraq says troops tried to provide medical attention after they saw that Zarqawi was alive but he recognized them as US troops and tried to get away." Look it, guaranteed, Zarqawi deserved to have his testicles stomped w/a pair of golf cleats attached to steel toed boots and is then bandaged w/a tight acid- dipped jock strap, but if this news is true, what does this say about our troops? Guess this was why on Friday the military was quick to reverse their "official" story that Zarqawi was killed instantly, huh? Not only do we have to be careful how we treat people and how we act in order to improve our world image as humane beings, NOT doing so costs LOTS of money (via NYT): "Almost half of the more than $19 million in compensation that the US military allocated last yr to compensate for killing or injuring Iraqis and damaging property came from Marine-led units in Anbar Province, Def Dept records show." |
