Saturday, September 10, 2005 The Great Depression has Come via DavisBacon 05 NY Times: On Thurs, Bush issued a proclamation suspending the law that requires employers to pay the locally prevailing wage to construction workers on federally financed projects, by suspending the 1931 Davis-Bacon Act. The suspension applies to parts of LA, MS, AL and FL. By any standard of human decency, condemning many already poor and now bereft people to subpar wages - thus perpetuating their poverty - is unacceptable. Unacceptable? Yes. Immoral? Most probably. But how else will Halliburton make even more billions? C'mon... all of that blood money from the Iraq war profiteering is start to have a sticky red residue on it. This new money will only have the stench of the waterlogged dead and desperate poor on it. |
