Tuesday, January 03, 2006 RepMurtha: I Wouldn't Join Today's Military Get ready for The Wrinkled Prune Jean Schmidt's witch-meter to go off the scale now: A decorated Vietnam combat vet who retired as a colonel after 37 yrs in the US Marines & the top Dem on the House of Reps subcommittee that oversees defense spending and 1 of his party's leading spokesmen on military issues, Rep John Murtha told ABC News' "Nightline" that Iraq "absolutely" was a wrong war for Bush to launch, and when asked in an interview taped on Friday: "Would you join (the military) today? Murtha replied; "No." "And I think you're saying the average guy out there who's considering recruitment is justified in saying 'I don't want to serve'," the interviewer continued. "Exactly right," said Murtha.
