Friday, December 09, 2005 US Admits to Blocking Access to Red Cross BBC: "The US has admitted for the 1st time that it has not given the Red Cross access to all detainees in its custody. The state dept's top legal adviser, John Bellinger, made the admission but gave no details about where such prisoners were held. The revelation made in Geneva by Bellinger is only likely to increase suspicion that the CIA has been operating secret prisons out of internatl oversight. He stated that the group Internatl Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) had access to "absolutely everybody" at the prison camp in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba but When asked by journalists if the ICRC had access to everybody held in similar circumstances elsewhere, he said: "No". He declined to explain further." Combine this info w/this LATimes article about a Pentagon memo on torture, and you have scary dealings. But c'mon... what's a lil bit of torture between friends... err... between complete strangers who are soon to become fast enemies? We'll only pay for it later when they seek revenge upon us for these torturous deeds. |
