Mayor Nagin:Stressed Cops/Fire Commit Suicide

As New Orleans begins the gruesome task of counting & rounding up her dead, and as the Coast Guard tells CNN that they are still rescuing folks after dark on Sunday night, (but that they do not have the resources to continue) we hear via AFP that Mayor Nagin told CNN that some N.O. police/ firefighters were driven to suicide by the trauma of trying to hold the city together in the aftermath of Katrina, and outnumbered and unable to deter the looters, a number of police officers simply turned in their badges in disgust. "They've been holding the city together for 3 or 4 days, almost by themselves, doing everything imaginable," Nagin said, "and the toll is just too much for them." Keep in mind, most of these cops/fire lost everything in the hurricane, too. Imagine having to deal w/the insanity of the Katrina aftermath all by themselves, plus deal w/your own families and your own losses. I would snap, too.
