GOP Kills Possible Katrina Commission

Good to see the GOP covers their tracks & shows us that they don't care at all if our nation is EVER ready for another catastrophe (via AssocPress): Sen Hillary Clinton's bid to establish the panel (which would have also made recommendations on how to improve the government's disaster response apparatus) failed to win the 2/3 majority needed to overcome procedural hurdles. Clinton got only 44 votes, all from Dems and independent Sen Jim Jeffords of VT. 54 Repubs all voted no. So, why did the GOP kill this when 76% of Americans want an independent bi-partisan investigation into the Katrina failures? Why did Bush even bother to waste his breath by saying this: "I want to know what went right and what went wrong." ? Oh that's right, everything is just for public show and b/c he needs stronger powers to deal w/catastrophes like Hurricane Katrina. THE MOST powerful man in America needs stronger powers. Like what? A magic wand w/the official WH emblem on it? Hat tip to Jessica for passing The State article my way.
