Sunday, July 03, 2005 Hope We're Still Here After the Comet is Blown Up When NASA's Deep Impact spacecraft bears down on a comet between July 3 and 4, live webcasts of the event will be provided by NASA and several observatories, large and small, to offer skywatchers a digital view to the cometary collision. NASA's Deep Impact mission is slated to crash an 820-pound Impactor probe into Comet Tempel 1, and the impact is expected to take place at 1:52 a.m. EDT (0552 GMT) on July 4. Personally, I just hope that this doesn't all go awry and cause serious safety issues for those of us here on Earth. In case this is the last event of all human kind, I guess it is a good thing thatI watched the movie "Dogma" this afternoon on Comedy Central (ya know, to gear up for the afterlife), but if you're inclined, you can watch the event here. |
