Monday, August 01, 2005 Who Sacrifices for this War? Not the Powerful GOP Wash Post & Uwe Reinhardt asks "Who Pays for Our Patriotism?": Should anyone be surprised by this national resolve, given that these wars visit no sacrifice of any sort -neither blood nor angst nor taxes- on well over 95 % of the American people? Unlike the editors of the nation's newspapers, I am not at all impressed by people who resolve to have others stay the course in Iraq and in Afghanistan. At zero sacrifice, who would not have that resolve? It is very easy to let this war languish when you aren't paying for it and aren't sacrificing your own loved ones' blood for it, eh? And Sen Inouye (D-HI) slams the GOP for ditching the troops to placate the NRA this past week YET all the while the GOP self-bloatedly claims THEY support the troops. This from a guy who lost an arm in WWII... sacrifice is something I think he is very familiar with. But, according to Karena's Blog THIS is how Bush supports the troops as Marines are about to feel the mighty sting of sacrifice to their faces and their wallets as their pay gets cut by $100s. |
