Thursday, May 11, 2006 AT&T,Verizon,BellSouth handed over Millions of Americans' Phone Records to NSA USAToday: "The NSA has been secretly collecting the phone call records of 10s of millions of Americans, using data provided by AT&T, Verizon & BellSouth. The NSA program reaches into homes and businesses across the nation by amassing info about the calls of ordinary Americans --most of whom aren't suspected of any crime. This program does not involve the NSA listening to or recording conversations. But the spy agency is using the data to analyze calling patterns in an effort to detect terrorist activity. For the customers of these companies, it means that the govt has detailed records of all calls they made (across town or across the country) to family members, co-workers, business contacts and others." I have nothing to hide (unless bashing BushCo on the phone is NOW a crime... which in fact it may be) but that is beside the pt. What right does my phone company have to hand over my personal phone records and what right does my govt have to analyze my calls when I am not a suspect in a crime? PROBABLE CAUSE. Ever heard of it? Oh that's right. Bush's new CIA dir nominee Gen Hayden says that doesn't even exist in the 4th Amend. |
