Thursday, December 01, 2005 Vatican's Decree on Gays Being Priests The Vatican released (w/ the blessing of Pope Benny) "a long-awaited 8pg document that has already sparked controversy" imposing restrictions on gays entering seminaries. The unofficial translation states: " the Church may not admit to the seminary and Holy Orders those who practice homosexuality, show profoundly deep-rooted homosexual tendencies, or support the so-called gay culture." Hmm, so hardcore butch men who are celibate and don't put rainbow bumper stickers on their car are ok? Beliefnet sums it up well: "The only gay men who will enter will be either clueless, closeted, or lying. This is a disastrous way to prepare men for healthy life as a priest, and gives rise to the very environment that everyone wanted to avoid: the repressed, fearful seminary where sexuality is a forbidden topic." Well, this Catholic thinks that repression, fear, and forbiddeness is exactly what the Church wants for everybody when it comes to all things sexual... straight or gay. |
