Thursday, December 15, 2005 House Supports Anti-Torture Bill... uh oh Bush WashPost: On a 308 to 122 vote, members of the House supported specific language proposed by McCain that would prohibit "cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment or punishment" of anyone in the custody of the US govt. The vote sends a clear signal to the Bush admin that both chambers of Congress support the anti-torture legislation and want the govt to adopt guidelines that aim to prevent damage to the US image abroad. Oh yeh... Bush will REALLY care what their message is when he refers to the Constitution (ya know, that pesky lil thing he swore to uphold not just once but twice?) as a "God-damned piece of paper." |
