Tuesday, October 04, 2005 Bush Loyalist Harriet Miers to Replace O'Connor So, Bush nominates Harriet Miers to replace Justice O'Connor, thereby snubbing Hispanics and hardcore Scalia-loving wingnuts. But what else do we know (or even more scary is the question-- what don't we know) about Miers? 1) She has never served as a judge. 2) The law firm she headed is Locke, Liddell & Sapp which has been linked to TRMPAC and questionable donations related to Tom DeLay. 3) Miers is linked to Bush's TX Air Nat'l Guard desertion. 4) Miers claims to be anti-choice.... so does that mean she is anti-abortion, too? (I am personally anti-abortion, and in fact I have NEVER met anyone who thought abortion was great and sounded like a fun thing to do on your lunch break, but I am vehemently pro-choice b/c it is a privacy and medical issue, NOT a political or religious issue- PERIOD- and an issue that certainly should not be decided by male politicians & male theocrats) 5) David Frum claims that Miers said this: "The President is the most brilliant man I have ever met." 6) The uber-conservative NatlReview doesn't love Miers, which could mean she may not be so awful on some issue for Dems, but she may just suck as a Justice pick b/c she is only a Bush bootlicker who proved her loyalty and is now being repaid. |
