Thursday, June 02, 2005 Crt Martial Judge Ruled War in Iraq Illegal This comes from Truth Out Org, (as pointed out and reposted by js7a and Andrew in Scotland): "I think that the government has successfully proved that any service member has reasonable cause to believe that the wars in Yugoslavia, Afghanistan and Iraq were illegal."-- Lt Cmdr Robert Klant, presiding at Pablo Paredes' court-martial. Paredes refused to board his Naval carrier in Dec 04 on the grounds that the ship was carrying Marines and Navy personnel and that particpating in the transport of those Marines would make Paredes complicit in war crimes committed in Iraq. Read Paredes' interview at Democracy Now!. You have to wonder, if pharmacists (who knew full well that they would have to fill prescriptions w/drugs that they may find morally objectionable) can refuse to fill prescriptions based upon their moral convictions, then why can't a soldier (who knew full well that they may have to go to war) refuse to partake in an activity, order, or war that they feel violates their moral convictions? Now that the military judge declared that this war is illegal, when do we impeach Bush?... I know, I know... but a girl can dream, right? |
