So I went to a seasonal flu shot clinic and all I got was swine flu

Now BabyGirl has asthma. Really really really baaaad asthma. So, we as a family all have to get seasonal flu vaccines because when a child with asthma catches the flu, it can became very serious very quickly.

So, I did what I always do:

In early September, I scheduled seasonal flu vaccines for both of my kiddos with their pediatrician. All is well, right?

Nope.

In the first week of October, the pediatrician's office calls to infom me that the kiddos' flu shot appt will have to be cancelled due to the fact the practice has completely run out of all seasonal flu vaccines.

Bloody hell.

What to do, what to do.... oh yeah... I now get to spend boatloads of time on the phone trying to figure out where exactly can my 7 yr old and 2 yr old get their flu shots given the fact that every flu clinic at CVS, Target, Walgreens, etc insists that the child must be at least 9 yrs old to receive a vaccine at their sites.

Bloody hell times two.

But a ray of light appears.... in the form of a flu clinic... courtesy of the County Board of Health.

So, I ask my mom to come with the kids and I because I have no idea how this wonderful adventure is gonna go. I also pull BabyGirl outta school for the adventure. And off we go!..... where we get to wait and line up, wait and line up, and wait and line up (did I mention we got to wait and line up???) and then finally, for a mere $14 per child and $20 per adult, as citizens of our county, amongst the hoards of folks who also waited and lined up for a freakin' eternity, we were able to get our seasonal flu vaccines.

We had very sore arms and a giant red welt where the vaccine was given, but all seemed well.

UNTIL

4 days later.........

WHEN

BabyGirl, Lil Man, and I all spike uber high fevers out of no where (BabyGirl's highest was a horrid 105.6, Lil Man's highest was a terrifying 106.8!!, and my highest was a nasty 104.5), we develop stuffy noses with zero breathing capability (yet we get to have loads of snot pouring out... weeee!), we have throats that feel like we gnawed on shards of glass and tossed back a lava chaser just for shits and giggles, we have burning chests that feels like white-hot phlegm is churning around in our lungs with every hacking cough, and we get these lovely body aches that feel like we were run over by a high-speed train and backed-over by a Peterbilt.

On Monday (October 12th) after spending an hour and a half in the waiting room with an endless sea of sick kiddies, the pediatrician performs flu tests and determines that we 3 have H1N1 flu.

Hubby and I look at each other in horror, and the good doc is kind enough to write out Rx's of Tamiflu for all 4 of us and informs my Hubby that the odds are that he has it (and has just not developed symptoms yet) given that the rule of thumb for contracting the flu is this:

If you spend 4 or more hrs with a person who has the flu in a confined space, then chances are that you got it.

(hmm... kinda like the hrs we spent waiting and lining up and waiting and lining up at the flu clinic amongst the hoards of folks?...uh, yeah.)

Well, let's see what the odds for Hubby, who did not go to the flu clinic:

All weekend long, the kiddos and I were blowing our noses, sneezing, and hacking up our lungs in the house.... the house that Hubby lives in with us (plus he and I share a bed).... hmmm, is that confined enough for ya?

Uh yeah. Hubby so has this, too.

Soooooo, I went to a seasonal flu clinic and all I got was the swine flu.

And oh yeah...

The cost of the 4 Rx's of Tamiflu? $210.

The number 1 side effect of Tamiflu? Nausea.

The number 2 side effect of Tamiflu? Vomiting.

The 4 of us now have both... plus all of the glorious symptoms of H1N1, and we're out $210 for the medicine that makes us feel all pukey.

Bloody fucking hell to infinity.

Now for those of you who don't know this, I am a gun-toting liberal.
Is it because I was born and raised in Ohio? Maybe.
Is it because I am the daughter of a dad who loved his weapons and really really really distrusted the govt after the Vietnam clusterfuck took our nation over the cliff? Could be.
Is it because I'm married to a guy who walked around his family farm with his first .22 rifle as early as the age of 7 years? Probably so.
But most of all, I just personally love guns so much that I really, really really wish that this site were for real and not merely satirical. (Oh Hello Kitty and My Little Pony... you are so sparkley and so very, very pretty!)
In all truth, Hubby and I both have conceal-carry licenses, we have a virtual arsenal in our gun safe and our lockboxes, and IMHO, there is nothing more fun than shooting our AR-15, our AK-47, or my particular assault rifle fav, our Steyr AUG.
But would we ever become members of a militia?
Uh, not bloody likely.
Who the hell wants to hang out with these types unless you are supah dupah creepy?
Well, not unless a highly unlikely zombie outbreak were to occur, and then quite frankly, it is only the well armed who are willing to join together and travel in numbers who will stand 2 hoops in hell of surviving, and I would like to see our liberal views survive that kind of apocalypse..... wouldn't you?
.... but I digress....
Would we ever drop a weapon at a town hall meeting held for Arizona Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords?
Uh, no freaking way.
If you're so goddamned stupid that you actually drop your weapon, 1) you don't deserve to ever have a weapon in your possession-- including a rubber-band shooter-- and 2) you don't deserve to make the rest of us weapon owners look like gun-dropping morons.
Would we ever strap 1 of our handguns to our thighs AT a townhall meeting that the 1st black president of the US is holding (a prez who receives 30 death threats per day, by the way) WHILE parading around a sign that spookily proclaims "It is time to water the tree of liberty" --- (ya know, that often distorted Thomas Jefferson quote that people love to spew when they want to back up their love for killing folks and over throwing the govt... ya know... like Timothy McVeigh... who wore a t-shirt with that quote on it when he was arrested for the Oklahoma massacre of scores of innocent children and adults??) ---
Uh, not on your FUCKING life.
Why?
1. A weapon is most probably not needed at such events (let's face it, Secret Service and local authorities got the gig well covered).
2. You might run the risk of showing up at such events only to find out that firearms are not legally allowed (believe me, LOTS of public places have these signs posted and you had better be damn well aware of them or else risk the consequences).
3. Why on earth would you run the risk of being overpowered and having that gun taken off of you at one of these mob-mentality rules/foaming at the mouth events and have a politician and/or innocent people shot with your firearm???
.... but more importantly....
4. We, as responsible gun owners and conceal carry license holders in this kind of uber-polarized/ facts be damned in the face of absolute lies kind of shitstorm that has become America, should never ever want to risk looking like freaking nutcases at a mob-mentality/ foaming at the mouth event-- and further this belief that only nutcases carry weapons and cherish gun ownership-- and therefore give more fuel to the fire that gun rights should be severely restricted and risk losing our legal right to carry a weapon at all.
.... and besides....
.... we're really really really sick and tired of white people always looking like mouth-breathing morons in public ALL the time. Don't believe us? Watch this, or just Google "arrested kill Obama" one time for shits and giggles and then try and tell me that we white folks don't look like a pack of racist, hateful freaks and morons...sigh...

It is with revolutionary glee that I can now proudly slap on the Che beret (no... no... not THAT beret. THIS beret) and exclaim it officially:

Why exactly, you might ask? Have we taken a recent trip to rub elbows with that filthy Che-loving' Fidel? Uhhhh..., not so much. Although if keeping it real in the Fidel fatigues looks half as fun as these guys make it look, I'm so into that.
Naw, ya see, the clock on the lease on our General Motors' 2005 SUV ran out this week, and given that we adore the vehicle, that we treated it with tender loving care and that we strapped a mere 23,000 miles on it---- (Yep. Ya read that correctly. It is 4 yrs old and has less than 25K miles on it) we would have to be brain damaged and/or Republican to NOT buy out the car after the lease is up, right?
Well, not if we freaking love Uncle Sam and bleed red, white, and blue like all "real Americans" do, because apparently, real patriots applaud war, the failure of America, poverty, hatred and fearmongering, murder doctors performing legal medical procedures, shoot up Jewish museums and murder a black guard, turn a willingly blind eye when people like this enlist in our military, call Michelle Obama's ancestors "gorillas," send emails that show Prez O in blackface, whore out your children for politics when it suits you, deny gay people the basic human right to marry the adult person they love because you claim it somehow "threatens hetero marriage" while a man, a wife and a married mistress makes up their own "God approved' marriage equation, pray for war with Iran when that nation's election reeks of fraud (hmm... wonder how these freakos would have felt if Iran would have talked about launching a war against the US when BushCo was blatantly engaging in voter fraud in 2004 and was selected NOT elected in 2000?) and boycott GM.

According to the likes of rightwing buttplugs like Hugh Hewitt and Heidi Harris, all good little KoolAid chuggers hope for the economic failure of 1000s upon 1000s of Americans. Why? You'll swoon as she breezily tosses out this compassionate conservative gem: "We just need to let it (GM) die... You know, there are other places you can work. And they can adapt... it's not the end of the world. "

I guess when your own vitriol towards the Dems, our Prez, our unions, and the American working class is so white hot that you personally pray for the demise of nearly 90,000 GM jobs and 40,000 Chrysler jobs ( and those job losses will certainly result in the loss of further countless unforeseen vehicle-related industry jobs) then the liquidation of the very industry that we the tax-paying people own a 60%+ stake in, somehow makes sense in that vacuous hat rack you call a head and that black crumb you call a heart, right?

I've been silent on "TittyGate", but after Carrie Prejean claimed that Satan was tempting her in the form of Perez Hilton (really???... Perez???... I always figured Satan would be so much more ravishingly handsome and charming... but what the hell do I know), that it was her God-ordained duty to defend God and His supposed position on gay marriage, and that she was told by God to "witness" to all of us gay-rights supporters, I"ve had my fill of this nutcase (and so has Keith O) and I simply cannot keep my yap shut any longer.
Now I'm no religious scholar, but I think I'm familiar enough with the Bible and Chrisitian teachings to know that posing for multiple sets of semi-nude photos (especially while a minor), repeatedly lying about the existence of any "morally questionable" pictures when entering into a written contract, tossing aside the knockers that God personally gifted ya with and getting a set of fake titties to further your chances along in a beauty contest... all while crazily claiming that God wants (and needs??) the likes of you to defend "His" supposed position on gay marriage... is 100% UN-Christian behavior.
Add to this that Toupee Trump proved that her "punishment" claim is 100% crapola because she did NOT have the scores to win-- with or without the gay marriage question, and call me crazy (although NOTHING says crazy like this wackadoodle example of the ramblings of a teary-eyed/ voice cracking Carrie ... seriously, ya blamed the wind for flashing your titties?... really??? I would think that Miss Cali would be used to those powerful Santa Ana winds, but what the hell do I know), but one really isn't being a good little wingnut while bearing false witness (by repeatedly lying to the pageant) and coveting anything that belongs to a neighbor (like wanting those pageant-winning fake titties over your God-given tiny ones). You are familiar with the Ten Commandments, aren't you, Miss Prejean? Save our history! Save our 200+ yr old tree!

This post is dedicated to my lifelong BFF & her park/ tree/ family- fun loving' dad and mom (whom my kiddos lovingly call Yia Yia & Papou) and to the city in which I grew up.
See that gianormously gorgeous tree behind the lovely lady in the hat? Well, that tree is about 200 yrs old. As Papou says in his op-ed to the local paper: "On Feb. 11, the Canton park commissioners gave approval to destroy one of Canton’s city parks, which includes five magnificent oak trees. Four of the oaks measure 11 ft in circumference and are estimated to be 125 yrs old. The fifth oak measures 16 ft 2 inches in circumference and has been estimated to be between 200 - 220 yrs old, making it one of the oldest oak trees in Ohio. A 200 yr old oak means that the tree was in its young life when Thomas Jefferson was president. And if a few years older, it was growing when our Constitution was signed."
That gianormous beauty, and the 4 other mentioned lovelies, are located in a nice family friendly park that offers "free" fun for families in the form of a basketball court, an ample field area to run and play ball, and the dazzling bounty of such old and sublime and stately trees. This park is directly next to an architecturally old yet sound and beautiful brick firehouse (in the hot days of summer, the firefighters frequently chat to fascinated kids that naturally gather in amazment of the awesomely cool firehouse), the park borders on a large retirement home, and also happens to be smack dab in the middle of a quiet middle-class neighborhood.
The problem? The former Mayor (Janet Weir-Creighton (R-lapdog) whom is locally famous for getting a Bush "position" after her mayoral defeat in '08, getting a personal phone call from Karl "I should be a convict for all the crimes" Rove , the rotting whiff of GOP corruption *gasp!* and for posing for a newspaper pix while puckering up & kissing a Bush bobblehead... I knows... I knows... position, pucker, kiss, & Bush bobblehead connote ALL kinds of horrific images... must not vomit... must not vomit) arranged to have these trees axed down before her defeat so a spanking new firehouse and firefighter training facility could be put up.
Now don't get me wrong. I love lives to be saved and cherish fire safety as much as the next Smokey the Bear, but in this ravaged county, which can proudly boast of a massive 10.4% unemployment rate, finding any free, family friendly and lovely spots of brightness and beauty are far and few between, while finding large rundown areas and bazillions of foreclosed/ abandoned homes that could be used for a new firehouse and/or fire training center, are literally everywhere. Not to mention-- can I tell ya again-- that one of these freakin' trees is 200+ yrs old?? That the other 4 are at least 125 yrs old?? Historical preservation anyone??
One would think that when your citizens are and have been economically suffering as much as Cantonians are, that the old mayor (along with her mythical conservative GOP family values) would have wanted to save as much money as possible, foster "free" family entertainment, and preserve as much precious heritage one could. But in Canton, where Repuke rule had an ironfist stranglehold for a looooong time, such virtues are chucked, especially given that the money set aside for this wreckage of natural beauty and old architecture, can only be used for this particular wreckage of natural beauty and old architecture, and nothing else.
Sigh... I fear for these majestic beauties, and for the families who enjoy the park, but maybe the new Mayor, William J. Healy II (D-economically downtrodden), can be convinced to save the gorgeous trees, the family friendly park, and the lovely old brick firehouse? Maybe...

Note to self: Remember to drink and pee

Illness has hit our home like a ton of bricks for about 5 months now. Seriously, since Halloween of '08, I have taken my kiddos to the pediatrician about every 2.5 weeks. It is so bad, that when I call, the receptionist recognizes my voice. I've gotten sick a few times from my precious germy little bastards (.... that's not really true. Hubby and I were married a full 2 yrs before we conceived BabyGirl, and were married at least 6 yrs before Lil Man came into the picture, so bastards they are not... but I digress) so I've seen my own doc a handful of times in this reign of illness, too, although I really would rather seek homeopathic care while sick (colloidal silver sprayed into sinuses when yucky snot is present, probiotics to build up immunities, and d-mannose to keep e-coli flushed from bladder) but I do resort to medical expertise when all else fails.... and sometimes things do fail. Badly.
For example: 2 wks ago, I picked BabyGirl up from school, and she was sporting pink flushed cheeks and a 103 fever, which quickly developed into a wicked respiratory ick that has infected all of us now. This particular ick knocked us on our asses (and BabyGirl has asthma, so every respiratory ick can quickly turn to pneumonia and full blown asthma attacks so serious around the clock breathing treatment care must be given), but given that I am the mom, I have to take care of everybody else and furiously clean to keep the germs at bay... all while nobody takes care of me. In fact, while flitting around in nurse-gear, I often forget to eat and drink. Well, that chicken came home to roost... and it left me in a shitload of hurt in the process.
I was busy playing Florence Nightingale to my kiddos and hubby, while hacking and coughing up a lung myself, and scrubbing my hands like Det. Adrian Monk and Lysoling everything in sight when I noticed that I had this killer back pain and felt hot and feverish. I figured I was just really really tired and blew it off.
About 2 days later, this back pain was becoming truly unbearable and my fever was now full blown and I was miserable. I called my dr to see if I could get in, but no luck. Ya see, my dr is in a practice with his dad, and unbeknownst to me, his father had just suddenly passed away 3 days earlier, so they were beyond swamped and probably felt about as bad I did, so I really did not want to "bother" them given what was going down at their office. Wrong.
Flash ahead 2 days even later, I can now barely have anything touch my back, I am peeing what I think is blood, I'm feeling like death would be a welcome relief, and I'm actually considering going to the emergency room, so I call my dr again, explain how bad this is, and they tell me that they have no appts, but that I can come in and they'll somehow squeeze me in. Great.... especially since our insurance fights us tooth and nail if we "dare to have the audacity" to go to the E.R., but now all I have to do is load up Lil Man with my broken back and get there.
Long story short: I was peeing blood, my kidneys were what was making my back hurt like I'd been hit by a Mack truck, and I have NEVER ever had a urinary tract infection like this before (and I've had my fair share of 'em) where the urge to frequently pee "lava" was completely absent and yet the infection hit me like a tidal wave, and as far as I'm concerned, I could live my whole entire life and NEVER ever experience this again, and I really really really hope this Cipro Rx does the trick.
So, I guess the lesson learned here is this: While playing Florence Nightingale to everybody else, please please please remember to drink and pee, drink and pee, drink and pee... or else risk suffering this ungodly fate again.
And of course, while waiting in the waiting room with my Lil Man, every freakin' person in there was hacking and coughing and tossing their damned germs around my precious kiddo, and he is now freshly sick with god-knows-what new illness (thank the gods we have health insurance, although if ya ask Repukeycans, health coverage is a mere want, NOT a need, and it certainly ain't a right cause to them it is "a privilege" ) ... sigh... but I'm so damn sick of being sick... grrrr.... and please please please remember to drink and pee, drink and pee, drink and pee....

Sayonara Capt. Clusterfuck!.. and don't let the door of history hit your evil ass on the way out!

As we get ready to say good riddance to the worst catastrophe ever to slither into America's most esteemed office, I suggest we be very mindful of just how unspeakably horrific BushCo has been for our nation (despite the laughable GOP fairytale that W was our 9/11 hero) and that we heed history's painful lessons and never. ever. ever. forget so that we never. ever. ever. repeat.

To begin, you may want to gather up the kiddies, a nice rocking chair, warm blankies and cups of cocoa, and read "Goodnight Bush: A Parody." Sure, it ain't the beautiful "Goodnight Moon" that millions of children have loved the world over, but isn't terrifying our youth with hard, cold facts for the sake of never. ever. ever. repeating this kind of catastrophic clusterfuck worth it, folks?

If that's not your style, you could take Bush's own father's advice and simply "...Google all of his son's failures." But really... who amongst us has all fucking eternity for THAT, eh?... especially when ya toss in a search on "the Google" of 4 generations of The Bush Crime Family. This was the first year that I did not post a Christmas greeting, but simply put I had ample reason: BabyGirl, Lil Man and I all came down with strep throat within 3 days of each other and our Christmas kinda sucked.... hardcore. So, let us thank the stars for antibiotics and get ready to say goodbye and good riddance to 2008 and offer a big welcome to 2009. May the New Year find us all healthy and happy and hopefully on a much better path than 2008

The pix I chose for this post highlights "Love never fails" from 1 Corinthians 13:8. Sadly, so many who quote the Bible fail to get that wonderful quote, but then again, sadly, it seems, so many who quote the Bible fail to get a whole lotta stuff. If you haven't already, please check out Newsweek's cover article by religion editor Lisa Miller called Gay Marriage: Our Mutual Joy. And if you can stomach it, then please peruse the religious reactions about Miller's thoughtful article which provides ample proof positive that fundamentalists selectively quote the Bible in order to justify their intolerances and that they choose the Bible as the tool to affirm and legitimize those pre-existing prejudices. After hearing that there is serious backlash to Newsweek for "daring" to print this article, Hubby and I sent this actual email:

Finally! Someone with some sense in their head writes an insightful article about marriage equality!
Thank you Lisa Miller for having the good sense to thoughtfully write it and thank you Newsweek for having the courage to print it.
As a hetero couple happily married for 9 years (and yes, we were married in a church) and as the proud parents of a kindergartner and 20 month old, it is inconceivable to us to want to deny any couple the very same happiness we so cherish and the family unit we work so hard to grow. We adore each other and our roles as husband and wife to one another, so why would we want to deny that joy to any other couple who also loves and cares for each other?
Not to mention the fact that we’re beyond tired of intolerance and bigotry shaping our laws, and being forced to watch the convenient cherry picking of the Bible distort Jesus Christ’s words of love while forcing hatred upon others in the false name of faith.
Love is way hard to come by in this world, so when 2 people are lucky enough to find it in each other, we as a society should encourage that union and allow 2 consenting adults to cement their bond legally according to our civil laws.
Besides, this simple fact does exist: In the United States, legal marriage is 100% of the time a union recognized by civil law regardless if the couple was married in a religious ceremony or in a civil ceremony.
Not everybody wants to, needs to, or chooses to get married in a church, mosque, or temple. But everyone who is legally married in the United States DOES form a legally recognized civil union regardless if a religious ceremony took place when those 2 people were wed.
So, if religious institutions want to ban same sex marriage, then that is absolutely their prerogative to do so, but our government has zero right, zero responsibility, and zero need to ban same sex marriage.
And for those people who want to continue to use the Bible to justify banning same sex marriage, then they had better get down to the business of making sure people stone their disobedient children, own slaves (but only from nations around us!), kill rape victims (but only those who were raped in the city!), force rape victims to marry their rapist (but only those who were raped in the fields!), stop eating shellfish, stop shaving, be banished for having sex with a menstruating woman, stop wearing clothes made from 2 different materials, and punish farmers who *gasp!* dare to plant their fields with 2 kinds of seeds. If not, then they are HYPOCRITES, and as anyone who has read the Bible knows, Jesus had plenty to say about hypocrites.

HappyThanksgiving! We have many things to be thankful for this year: 1. I'm thankful that I have not suffered an actual heart attack between Halloween and now given the countless times I have found one of THESE tucked discreetly inside baskets full of dirty laundry, my bed sheets and/or dresser drawers. To BabyGirl and Hubby: I know you two are behind this and have sworn each to secrecy, but take notice: I'm the one who packs your lunches... ahem. Imagine your own shock and horror if you were to bite into a Fancy Feast sandwich. 'Nuff said, no? 2. Given the horror of the last 8 yrs, I want to say thank you voting-America for finally pulling your heads from your asses. Now if we could only exterminate ourselves free from vermin like Scary Sarah the GOP moron poster girl and Joe who is not named Joe the tax evading non-bill paying non-Plumber. 3. Given the unspeakable corporate handoutwhores and wealthy welfare/ deregulation clusterfuck/ trickle down economic trainwreck that the last 8 yrs and Capt Clueless have chained us to (which culminated into this complete Great Depressionesque meltdown) if you still have a job and/or health benefits, any semblance of a 401K left, and if you don't have to rely on food stamps to scrape up food for your family, you should breathe a serious thankful sigh of relief and pray for those who aren't so lucky. 4. If you have friends and family who are happy, well, and healthy breathe another thankful sigh of relief.
I am, of course, thankful for all of the above, and I'm especially thankful for the little family Hubby and I have made and for my small circle of friends that I so cherish. Yesterday, Lil Man, myself and my BFF travelled thru yet another one of Lake Erie's recent lake effect snowstorms to attend BabyGirl's kindergarten play about Thanksgiving and the history of the feast. She wore a giant smile and an Indian feather headdress, and proudly delivered this line: "Yes, it all happened so very long ago in 1620." Awwww... my little diva! I held back my mommy tears of pride and joy as Auntie BFF snapped pictures with her cell phone (thank the stars she had the good sense to remember given that I not only forgot my camera but I also forgot my cell as I frantically looked for and then tried to wrestle a hat on a VERY uncooperative Lil Man). And what was Lil Man doing while Sissy made her stage debut?
Well......... sadly yet oh-so adorably, he was leaning dangerously foward in his stroller to get a good look at his sister, waving his arms wildly in the air at her, blowing kisses at her and yelling her name (well, HIS baby-language version of her name) in a frantic attempt to get the attention of his beloved big sister who had to ignore him cause she was IN the play.
Yes, his yelling was disrupting the play. Yes, it was hard to hear the rest of the kids deliver their lines (I'm so sorry kids... really I am!!) and yes, some parents were openly pissed and blatantly gave us the evil eye... but what could I do?? Muzzle him? Scold him? Stuff the fuzzy hat in his mouth? Lil Man simply adores his sister, and next to his blankie, she is his sun and moon and stars.... so try to understand his 20 month old mentality and get over it people, m'kay? So, despite the bad vibes sent our way at the play, I was oh-so proud of my little diva and her biggest yet shortest adoring fan.
This Thanksgiving, I'll be cooking for my little family plus my parents, (which will be lovely and psycho-sibling/family drama free) which in my household equals pure bliss. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday spent luxuriating in happiness, footballiness, thankfulness, drunkeness and overindulgence, and if you're traveling, please do so safely.
And oh yeah.... this year I am also oh-so thankful for this. Oh schadefreude.... how I love thee! I feel this situation can only best be summed up beautifully via this times 10. But ya have to wonder if Ann the Emaciated Hag will shrivel up and blow away after being forced to slurp her daily diet of 1 olive or raisin thru a straw, and ya simply have to ask how exactly does one even obtain that injury??? Hmmm..... maybe it happened when she forgot to unhinge her serpentine jaws as Alan Colmes reached in to retrieve what's left of his balls from that bulge in her neck?

Yes, that is Lil Man dressed up as a batty-bat, and BabyGirl as a glittery blue rose-fairy princess... and yes... Lil Man swiped the blue rose "magic wand" outta his sister's hands and seconds after this pix was taken, he popped the giant flower into his mouth...sigh. Good thing BabyGirl is so patient with him and his antics, eh? And even though you can't tell, Lil Man is wearing only half of his costume. Why? Because despite the fact that the costume is a size 2T, and he is only 19 months old, we had to cut the bottom half off of the costume because his long legs wouldn't fit-- leaving us with just the bat cape/wings and fuzzy hood and body to squeeze his 31+lbs into. At this rate of growth, how ever will we feed this kid when he's a teenager?
And despite the insanity of election time, I L-O-V-E this time of year. Not only is autumn gorgeous with it's awesomely crisp weather and colors, but with fall comes my 3 favorite celebrations:
1.) My wedding anniversary on October 23rd (it was our 9th this year... and yes... we still rock each other worlds!)
2.) Halloween (the most misunderstood and hallowed-- as in respectful of the dead-- yet pretty carefree and fun holiday)
3,) and the soon to arrive Thanksgiving (a holiday that has a most shameful and bloody history, but has thankfully become a holiday for family, friends and loved ones w/minimal commercialism b/c the focus is on the feast, being thankful for that feast and the lovely company you share it with.)
So, despite the insanity and ugliness of the political season, let's not forget to take the time to notice the beauty of autumn around us, make some yummy hearty meals, share the good food and beauty with our loved ones, and do remember to donate to your very needy local food banks.

Forget that McCheater's questionable record of having any level of respect for the women in his life (Carol and Cindy) and females in general makes me wonder if this shady guy should be left in charge of my cat, let alone our nation and the reproductive rights of 50% of our citizens. Forget the fact that it isn't just ANYBODY who decides the criteria for the health of the mother, it just so happens to be the Supreme Crt who decides it... ya know... that quaint lil group of legal eagles. Didja get that? A woman, her family, and her doctor in private... with absolutely ZERO input or control from our federal govt. Just because you picked that ignoramic human paraquat to intelligence & knowledge for your Vice Prez solely because she possesses a vagina does NOT mean that you get to control OUR vaginas.

As you can clearly see.... I've made some big changes. I guess I really wanted a new blog template b/c I've been on a holy quest to find beauty in my daily life b/c I feel like I'm drowning in a sea of ugly and mean. I'm not just referring to the insanity between Hillary, Obama, and the McPandering McConfused McFossil. And I'm not just referring to the ceaseless ugliness and meanness from Hubby's side of the family in the wake of his g-ma's death. I'm referring to some very unwarranted ugliness and meanness from my own side of the family, too.

Whether it's coming from my older sister, who apparently couldn't be bothered to send a sympathy card or even a crappy email to Hubby, (despite the fact that when my sister's husband experienced the death of a close loved one, Hubby and I went to the calling hours out of respect for my brother-in-law as my sister's husband and uncle to my children, and also out of respect for his loss), or my 23 yr old pregnant niece, who apparently is either simply too fucking lazy or too fucking stupid to open up 1 of the gazillions of baby-name books available or check out 1 of the gazillions of baby-name sites online and pick 1 of the gazillions of lovely female names for her baby that are not MY daughter's names (a daughter of mine, by the way, upon hearing that my 23 yr old niece was telling all that she was going to use MY kiddo's name for her own baby, burst into tears & cried out: "But that's MY name, mommy! I'm the only BabyGirl Fuzzy and Blue in this family. She can't steal MY name!").

Or whether it is coming from my own mom who apparently is too biased towards my sister and her 23 yr old pregnant daughter to see just why ever in the world Hubby, BabyGirl and I would dare to feel offended, hurt, and pissed off. But then again, to her credit, my mom probably couldn't possibly understand us and our hurt feelings and our emergency situation b/c she WAS too busy leaving nasty message after nasty message on the shut off cell phones of Hubby and I (they HAD to be turned off b/c we were in the intensive care unit while Hubby's g-ma was slowly inching towards death).

Why the nasty messages, you ask? Well, my mom was demanding that we immediately drop off a family heirloom cradle (that we used last for Lil Man) for my lil sister. Ya see, lil sis very unexpectedly had her 2nd baby on the exact same day that Hubby's g-ma unexpectedly had her stroke and 2nd heart attack. Why did my lil sis immediately need this cradle for her 2nd child? B/c mysteriously and inexplicably, lil sis claimed that she still didn't have vital baby items--like freakin non-disposable baby items such as a bassinet or crib, which I know for a fact she received at her 2003 baby shower for her son-- so now, according to my lil sister, her poor new baby was heartlessly "forced" to sleep in a empty laundry basket on the cold floor b/c we are simply too thoughtless and cruel to newborn babies to be bothered to break hospital rules and turn our phones on and race from the Cleveland area hospital back to our hometown (which happens to be 2 hrs away from Cleveland) to deliver the cradle.

So, since I'm such a heartless bitch with ridiculously sensitive feelings, and a very hurt husband and daughter (who apparently suffer from my same afflictions) I think I'll look for a chrysalis and see if I can turn into a beautiful butterfly and fly far, far away from this sea of ugly and mean.

But.... before I remove myself from all of this family- douchebaggery.... I feel compelled to scream this political tidbit from the rooftops to all Hillary sore losers-- Hey bitches! You had better wake the fuck up. Yeah, I called you bitches, and I'm especially talking to all of my fellow white, middle class bitches. John McCrazy is unspeakably awful for this nation, and he will further drive us into the already flaming ditch. And if you honestly want to vote for McCain or refuse to vote for Obama b/c you somehow think that the only reason that Hillary is not the nominee is due to sexism and misogyny, I have one vitally important thing to ask you: How can you Dems honestly say that voting for a woman-hating asshat like McCretin ("I call my wife a cunt") and refusing to preserve and safeguard women's reproductive rights this November does a single thing for American females and their futures? Even though, at this particular point and time, I would like to strap on a steel-toed boot and have an old fashioned ass-kicking party w/ the women of my family, I can guarantee you this: I will fight to my last breath to defend my mother's, my sisters', my 3 nieces', and my daughter's rights to reproductive freedoms. How can you possibly consider denying them and every American female these rights and still call yourself a defender of women? If you can't answer that question, then perhaps you should have the common courtesy to pass out clean coat hangers or start a "European or Canadian abortion fund" for all of us rational women who cherish reproductive freedoms and our daughters, granddaughters, and great-granddaughters, eh?

Family issues: Front and center due to a death

Despite a very hopeful Mother's Day visit, the health of Hubby's g-ma had taken a very sudden and unexpected turn for the worse this weekend. As I stated in a previous post, due to their mom's complete refusal and inability to be simply HUMAN, Hubby and his big bro are co-powers of attorney of g-ma's affairs and medical issues, and they were faced with the incredibly impossible decision of whether or not to deny her a feeding tube (they decided to have one put in) but it was to no avail. She passed away this morning at 5:30 am. I wish I could do something... anything... to make this easier for my husband, but I fail to see what I can do... besides be his best friend and support. And to add insult to injury, the Will, which had been stolen by hubby's insane mom, suddenly... **poof**... turned up. And what a shock!.. the wicked witch who is too evil to even pick up a phone over the past 10 yrs and speak to her own mother inherits EVERYTHING. I know g-ma held out the desperate and futile hope that Hubby's mom (and g-ma's only child) would behave just a little like the Christian she sickeningly brags to all who are within earshot that she is, and show her 90 yr old mother a little kindness and concern, and perhaps try to not get removed by hospital security and do the right thing like simply visit her dying mother, (or not say things like this about her poor mother: "A feeding tube? That'll just keep her alive." or "Don't you two have her transported to a hospital closer to you. Just leave her where she is to die.") but alas, sadly, it is not to be. I guess my mother-in-law's "Christian" street-cred only goes as far as her hatred and intolerance of others will take her, and as far as her tiny crumb of a black heart allows her to claim a sick, twisted and exclusive ownership of Christ's gospel. So.... it is with a very heavy heart that I say that I'll be back in a bit. Hopefully, when I return, Cosmic Justice will have bitchslapped my mother-in-law into her next life (a next life which will hopefully be spent as a very, very sickly mother in desperate need of the help of a kind and loving daughter-- a daughter-- who chooses to treat her like trash beneath her feet, by the way), the dust will have settled, peace will have prevailed, my children's great grandmother will be exactly where she wants to be in the universe, and my beloved Hubby's heart will be lighter. And to g-ma: I am so happy that I insisted that Hubby collect and scan all of your old photos and put them on disc so your grandson and great grandchildren could preserve their heritage and treasure your long history. And could somebody please explain to me why that vainglorious handjob piece of trash Rush Limbaugh gets to urge his listeners to jump on his self labelled "Operation Chaos" train and encourage violence in Denver at the Democratic Convention, and not be held responsible for such talk? This is no joke, ya gangrenous douchebag. This is encouraging a RIOT during a part of the process that leads to we the people choosing the President of the Unted States (although I'm sure our esteemed Justice Antonin Vaffancullo Scalia would cavalierly tell us to "just get over it.") Now I'm all for freedom of speech, so don't even try to say that I'm attempting to limit free speech. So, have ya heard that an already burning in ruins Iraq is on the verge of ripping apart at the seams while the Republicans are simply too busy being delusional, ignoring reality, rewriting history, outright lying and whitewashing crimes... while Joe-Judas Lieberman is apparently busy smoking crack, and Obama and Hillary are waaay occupied with destroying each other and the Dem Party? Fuhgettaboutit. When I want a r-e-a-l dose of cutthroat politics, watching people getting screwed over royally, and awful reflections of American reality, I'll turn to The Tudors' second season and Tracey Ullman's State of the Union. Oddly enough, only one of these cable delights was supposed to be based upon historical facts that are embellished with plenty of creative license, but I'm sure Showtime didn't count on it being Tracey Ullman's new show. Ullman's Arianna Huffington is spot-on and her sad yet hilarious portrayal of a struggling farmer's wife and her husband (whom has been sent to Iraq so many times with his National Guard unit that his flannel wearing wife has to remind him, as she climbs onto their rusty tractor in an attempt to somehow reap a crop from their foreclosed farm, to get up off his prayer mat and end his morning prayers as he is heard calling out "Allah akbar!" from the inside of his barn) is priceless. Don't get me wrong... just as I did last spring... I'll happily tune in every Sunday night to see sexy King Henry rip off his long suffering wife, his disgruntled English subjects, his Pope and his Church, and Anne Boleyn's (and any other available lady's) lacey bodice, but for real facts sprinkled with a healthy dose of creativity and American reality, I'll watch Tracey Ullman, thankyouverymuch. And while I don't dare to think I can speak for them, I'm guessing the Brits won't bash their ex-patriot Tracey in the same way they have bashed the hyper-sexed up/ historically dumbed down Tudors... feh... who cares... Jonathan Rhys-Meyers still looks smokin in his goatee and codpiece and Tracey Ullman always cracks me up... and the best parts?: As a literate woman with a brain, I can actually uncover all by my widdy-bitty self which parts are facts and fiction, and I won't have to listen to truth-disabled blowhards like Lying Limbaugh or Pat Buchanan froth at the mouth over either one of 'em.

March 18th... Lil Man's 1st Birthday

Despite having a Blues Clues themed-party this past Saturday, today is Lil Man's official day of birth. As you'll recall, it was quite the event last year (complete with near death experiences and deadly infections). Now, as I look back upon this year, I have to say this: Where TF did the time go??? And secondly, I have to add this: I always wanted a daughter, and Hubby always wanted a daughter, too. So much so, that we prayed that we would be lucky enough to have a sassy and strong willed gorgeous girl to cherish.... yet we never really pictured ourselves having a son. In fact, just after Hubby and I got married in 1999, we went to a flea market one crisp fall afternoon, and I bought something unexpected: A Seymour Mann Victorian angel doll. Now, let's be clear: I am NOT a "doll person" by any stretch of the imagination. I find dolls sitting around just staring at you to be waaaay creepy, but this doll is just somehow different. She somehow manages to not be creepy. She simply sits there looking innocently lovely: She has gorgeous long, long curly red hair, green eyes, and a lovely green velvet dress and gold halo and angel wings. When I purchased her from the old lady who was selling her, she asked me if I collected Seymour Mann dolls, and I told her that I have never bought a collectable doll before in my life but that I just thought she was beautiful and if we (Hubby and I) were someday lucky enough, I'd like to pass this doll down to a daughter of mine, The old lady took the cash from Hubby, and then she said: "Oh dear, you'll have a daughter more beautiful than that doll." And she was absolutely correct! BabyGirl is not only waaay more gorgeous than the porcelain beauty, but BabyGirl is also seriously sassy and strong-willed.... just the way we wished her to be! But somehow... after getting what we wanted in BabyGirl... we thought we might want another child, but having a son just never really entered our minds. Don't get me wrong: We knew full well that you stand a 50/50 chance of conceiving either sex, but I grew up with sisters only, and my big sis had all girls, and then we had a girl, so I guess we just couldn't imagine having a boy around, and during the month we worked on conceiving him (yep... it only took one month!) I know I certainly couldn't imagine what a girl like me would even do with a boy......... until I had one. Now, I can't believe I lived my life without him. Simply put: I am in love with my beautiful boy. He is everything I never, ever knew I wanted or needed. He fills a gap that we never knew existed. He gives us happiness that we never knew was missing. He simply makes our family complete. So, to my beautiful blue-eyed boy, I must say this: From the top of your curly blond head to the tip of your chubby little toes, I love you with all of my heart and I will always love you. I will always kiss your boo-boos, and wash your unbelievably dirty hands and face, and try not to freak out when you man-handle delicate things, and I will cheer you on no matter how secretly terrified I am that the sport you are playing will result in a fatal injury or require a tourniquet to stem the bleeding...... but most of all, I will always, always thank the stars above that the Powers That Be saw to it to send such an amazingly wonderful boy to me. Thank you for being mine. I love you Lil Man. Happy 1st Birthday.

Heart attacks, hospitals & happy birthday

As you can see from this pix of BabyGirl sitting in a hospital bed, I have been rather preoccupied. Actually, truth be told, this hospital visit has just been one of many for the month of February. Lemme 'splain: The first week of Feb, Hubby's beloved 90 yr old g-ma suffered a small heart attack. (Quick review: Hubby does not speak to his uber Evangelical Republican parents, but he is very close to his g-ma. G-ma, in turn, is not spoken to by Hubby's parents b-c she not only dares to speak to Hubby, but she also dares to not care that Hubby is a Dem and is married to a Catholic. I know... I know... WTF??) Now this heart attack event was traumatic enough, but add to it this unspeakable turn of events: Hubby's mom (g-ma's only child) had to be removed from the hospital by security guards due to her insane behavior and hissy-fit throwing, and oh yeah... due to the fact that she stole g-ma's wallet, Soc Sec card, driver's license and keys out of her purse and then she and Hubby's dad proceeded to ransack g-ma's home and stole her lockbox that holds all of g-ma's highly valuable documents... including her will. So very Christian and Conservative, no? Soooo... Hubby and his bro had to scramble to get themselves named power of attorney over all of g-ma's affairs b-c who the hell knows what else their crazy-ass mom will do to granny. In doing so, Hubby and his bro have discovered that their mom has swindled their g-ma into signing some very questionable papers in regards to g-ma's money, property & estate (i.e. 100% circumventing g-ma's wishes as have been specifically stated in her will). Again... so very Christian and Conservative, no? Now in terms of physical recovery, this spry old bird is pretty okay given her age and what happened to her, and she is getting stronger everyday in a temporary nursing home setting, but in terms of emotional recovery, she is devastated that her own only daughter could do these cruel and criminal things to her. Add to this insult to inury that dr's recommend that g-ma now sell her home and move into assisted living and that Hubby's mom greedily wants to squeeze out half of the home's value for herself and her bank account, and this entire thing is 1 gianormous clusterfuck mess. So, since g-ma's heart attack, things have been a blur between long snowy drives to Cleveland area hospitals and nursing homes and lengthy attorney visits, but we flipped around our schedules and managed..... until the kids got sick. Really sick. Really r-e-a-l-l-y sick. So sick-- that after 2 seperate visits to the pediatrician and 2 sets of prescriptions-- hospitalization was needed. What we thought was just croup (they had the telltale "barking seal" coughs) was actually RSV that happily wrecked havoc to my poor kiddos' bodies while hooking up w/a nasty sea of bacterial pneumonia germs. Sooo... off to the hospital for serious IV antibiotic-drips and dehydration-fighting fluids we went.... only to discover a few days later that they have almost gotten rid of the pneumonia, but they do still require breathing treatments AND they now have horrific ear infections that are supah-dupah strong b-c the germs have been exposed to serious antibiotics and are now completely resistant and are laughing at our mere Rx meds as if they were Pez candies. And oh yeah... in the middle of all this, what pray tell has to happen? I just had to catch RSV and pneumonia, of course... b-c really... being up night after sleepless night (crying and worrying about and taking care of such sick kids and g-ma) just wasn't enough on my already heaping mommy plate, eh? Naw. Course not. But on the bright side, one good thing has come from these endless sleepless nights: I have discovered that I abso-freaking-lutely LOVE the crazy-ass Japanese obstacle course show called Ninja Warrior on the G4 channel! Granted, it is not Monk... but it'll do in a pinch. Anyhoo... after mailing out our absentee ballots this snowy Saturday afternoon for the Ohio primary being held on March 4th (Hubby and I both voted for Obama) the only thing I plan on heaping on my mommy plate right now is a massive slice of birthday cake b-c today is my damned birthday and I don't care how freaking sick I am... I WILL BE EATING BIRTHDAY CAKE...... but I just hope that it wasn't baked in THIS.

No, no, no... all is well on a personal level, but I haven't read or heard one bit of news lately that makes me happy. In fact, besides my wonderful Hubby & kiddos, and cooking really yummy food, not much has made me smile recently. Of course I love you guys... but ya gotta understand: It is freezing cold and snowy here in N.E. Ohio, and the temps are expected to reach zero degrees or below this weekend, so besides snuggling up with my kids, husband, hot cocoa, delicious soups, stews, yummy breads and crackers, while watching the highly anticipated new season of Monk, WTF else is there to do? I'm beyond fed up with the media feeding frenzy of the caucuses, the ridiculous "race war' between Hillary and Obama, the latest insane ramblings of BushCo, The Huckster and The Big Greasy Mitt, Obama's "love" for Ronnie Ray-Gun, and the unspeakable long list of crimes that have recently been committed by parents/adults against children (here, here, here, here, and here... and of course, that particular kiddie raping perv is a Republican), Add to this that I've been forced to shop for a new cell phone because mine has been abused and dropped too many times while trying to pry it out of the inexplicable kung-fu like grip of my tiny Lil Man. Since I'll have to live with this new phone for the next 2 yrs, shopping for one that has all the features I desire PLUS has the toughness I require (flimsy yet pretty RAZRs and KRZRs be damned!) my quest is like shopping for an illusive Grail to lease that meets my impossible standards of "girliness and cuteness" and being made of hand forged steel. Grr.... I'm grouchy... I'm cold... I'm fed up with insane politicians and criminals... I'm currently cell-phoneless... and I'm seriously contemplating hibernation... but only if it comes with a durable yet really girlie cell phone, yummy hot cocoa, soups, stews, breads and crackers, a giant down comforter, and oh yeah... the new season of Monk.

TRANSLATION: Theocratic nutcases picked another aww-shucks internationally clueless hypocritical hillbilly who wants to shove the Bible down our throats, into our bedrooms, and up our ovaries. Yep, this NRA-loving wingnut, who forgives murdering rapists of Clinton relatives, hopes everyone will ignore his own record as Gov (especially all of that "Jesus liked the poor not capital gains" stuff, plus his dog-murdering son's plentiful crimes) while thanking all of those "unborn voters" out there in his victory speech (as fellow crazy creationist Chuck Norris and his creepy preternaturally white teeth proudly looked on) clearly reflects the Iowa GOP's values. Wow. Who knew that we'd e-v-e-r have to question the dubious and cryptic morality of evangelical voters who flocked to The Huckster's questionable Southern Christian values?... (as if we haven't already been doing that since Bush slithered into the White House, eh?) And for those of you who did not happen to catch John Edwards' 2nd place speech last night, this latest Britney escapade is a prefect example of "America's Haves vs the Have-Nots" that Edwards has so frequently spoken of. Do you honestly think for 1 second that if Britney were a single middle-class/poor mother instead of the rich trainwreck that she is that her kids would not have been taken away from her a LONG time ago? Do you honestly think that a hospital stay PLUS a promise of NO criminal charges would have been the end result of locking one of her babies in a room when the kid's father came to pick him up in addition to a 3 hour long standoff with the cops if that crazy bitch weren't rich?? Puh-leeze. If she were you or I, she would had been heard screaming "Don't tase me, bro!" and/or she would have had one helluva case of the scorching retinas after being peppered sprayed, and she would have been unceremoniously hauled off to the pokey. Once in jail, instead of a hospital room, she would have happily worked out her longstanding mental issues & suicide watch while staring at the filthy walls of a jail cell, wondering when further criminal charges and/or possible prison time would come crashing down upon her... while kissing goodbye any chances of being near the precious fruit of her loins again... if that crazy bitch weren't rich....

Hmm... my phone service and DSL are finally back after being MIA since a winter storm blew into Ohio. It must be a freakin Christmas miracle! We were told not to expect service until sometime after the 27th. Speaking of this month, December has been, in a word, sick. No, I'm not talking about all the stomach churning and ceaseless nausea that BushCo and all the presidential candidates have caused. No, see I've seen my pediatrician more times than I'd care to repeat, and I'm sure more than my health insurance will pay. My kiddos have simply been unable to shake their illnesses, which have morphed into new illnesses that require new doctor visits and new prescriptions. Sooo... I can honestly say that I look foward to a healthy and happy New Year. Don't get me wrong, Christmas is still a wonderful time of year, especially since BabyGirl is r-e-a-l-l-y trying to convince Santa that she has been a supah-doopah girl this yr (check out her face in the pix below as she sits on Santa's lap...oh yeah... she's seriously sweating it as she wonders if Santa actually sees EVERYTHING and really knows when you've been bad or good for goodness' sake) plus, it is Lil Man's 1st Christmas, so we do have much to celebrate. But, I do look foward to wrapping 2007 up and spending a quiet winter that involves oodles of healthiness & plenty of wishing for an end to the war in Iraq. So, my dear beloved blogger friends and cherished ones, from me and mine, to you and your's, may you have a very Merry Christmas and a very happy and healthy New Year, and let's all wish and pray for peace. As we close '07, my 9 mos old Lil Man can wave hello, shake his head "no-no-no," make "woo-woo" sounds w/ his hand like a bad stereotype of an Indian chief, blow you a kiss, clap his hands (with or w/o me saying "Yay!" to him first), constantly say "Da-Da" to Hubby or just b/c he simply seems to love the word, say "hi" and "uh-oh," and can roll like a demon on wheels. Heartbreakingly, he rarely says "Ma-Ma" and won't say it to me upon demand, and he refuses to crawl. He'd rather roll everywhere & then cry like a banshee when he gets bored or tired or stuck. Oh well, there is one thing he absolutely must have from Mommy: Me rocking him to sleep at night. Aaaahhh... only Mommy can seem to do that right.

Ignoring all of the shameful things our white early American ancestors have done to Native Americans... (ya know... like elbowing our way onto & into this continent by giving smallpox infected blankets to native Americans, and The Indian Removal Act, signed into law by Pres Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830-- which paved the way for the reluctant—and often forcible—emigration of tens of 1000s of American Indians to the West and the complete cession of their land rights just to name only 2 repugnant and shameful acts)... Thanksgiving is still one of my favorite holidays. It is-- with the exception of the cooking hoopla, which I will be doing for my side of the family-- a straight foward fun day of feasting, talking, imbibing, relaxing, and reflecting upon what we should be thankful for. And it has been that kind of holiday since Abraham Lincoln declared it a national holiday in 1863... and I like that. So, in that "grateful" frame of mind, here are the things I am thankful for: Of course I am most thankful for my children, my husband, my family, my friends, our health and our humble finances. But I'm also pretty damn thankful THIS sex-crazy Religious Fright family is not my clan. I'm thankful I do not live in the South... and it's not just b/c of their votes electing God, gaybashers & guns. I'm thankful my children's names are not hung from tags on a Salvation Army Angel Tree, unlike the 2 kids we picked this season. I'm thankful that when visiting this local monastery to buy bread and really fabulous Wedding Soup (profits help out the nuns and charities) that I did NOT laugh outloud when Hubby leaned close behind me and whispered incredulously: "How can this soup be so freaking good? WTF do these ladies know about weddings?" I'm thankful that I do NOT have this kind of immoral job on my resume that forces me to "write a tell-all book" to purge my very tortured... err... bad Freudian slip... soul. I'm thankful that I don't have cancer, but what a shame that inhumane asshats like this have survived it. I'm thankful that I have HDnet thru my satellite provider, which allowed me to watch the new DePalma film "Redacted" last week before it opened... and unlike the wingnuts foaming at the mouth w/ venom over this film, I ACTUALLY watched it, and for the record O'Reilly, the scenes of our troops getting blown up and morally destroyed were just as horrific and disturbing to me as the scenes of the Iraqis getting blown away, morally destroyed and raped. I'm thankful I'm not married to THIS guy. I'm thankful that I'm not the faltering waaaay fast US dollar... or the barely breathing US economy. I'm thankful my mom, my sisters, my neices, my daughter, my BFF, and I do not live under the insane laws of Saudi Arabia. I'm thankful this Fox & Friends ass is not a lawyer, or cop, or even apparently, a US citizen w/ Constitutionally protected rights. I'm thankful I'm not elderly, living on Medicaid, and facing... eviction. For the past week, my kiddos have been keeping this schedule: crying, blowing green snot out of their faces, crying, refusing to eat, crying, coughing up a lung, crying, running fevers, crying, wiping green snot on their faces, crying, feeling miserable... and oh yeah, did I mention crying? So this rare moment of peaceful rest has me worried... real worried. So worried in fact, that Hubby & I thought we should capture it on film... just in case. So, we have to ask: What or whom did this to them? Were they secretly extraordinarily renditioned and waterboarded? Feh. If so, at least I can reassure myself with this warm and fuzzy knowledge: America's soon to be Attorney General/ Torquemada Gonzales replacement Judge Mukasey does NOT know if waterboarding is torture. Were they simply struck down dead after hearing the utterly inexplicable shocking news that Bush (ya know, a prez whose spending exceeds every presidency combined) is claiming to be a fiscal conservative simultaneously in the same week that our nat'l debt reaches $9 trillion? Did they accidentally ingest some Chinese made "Aqua Dots" and are now under the dangerous influence of GHB, ya know, a date-rape drug? Did they fall into a catatonic state of Fundie Christian elation after hearing that the... ahem... always-so-relavant and sane Pat Robertson really, really hearts Rudy and really, really hates Islam?... a religion, by the way, which the good Rev Pat claims is NOT a religion. Hmm, is the real reason behind the kiddos' unexpected "slumber" that Hubby and I are completely too stupid to responsibily do our duty as parents and properly r-e-a-d the directions and the entire ingredients of an OTC medication and we just somehow mysteriously repeatedly dosed them to the point of death on some cold medicines? Or maybe, just maybe, the real push behind their peaceful rest is this disgusting Godsend of a product from Sweden that just arrived in the mail. Shh... nobody tell the Rev Fred Phelps. Although, even if we remove that "sinful" Sweden from the equation, BabyGirl IS wearing a tie-dyed shirt and Lil Man IS sporting one of his big sissy's hand-me-down pink bibs, so I'm sure the Cryptkeeper from Kansas would say that my "tree- hugging hippie" daughter and "crossdressing" son get whatever they deserve coming to 'em... sigh... Oh well, I guess I better enjoy this rare moment of quiet and collapse into my own state of sleep because anyone w/ a baby knows if the baby is finally quiet and sleeping, then everyone else in the house can finally sleep... and I would... if only I didn't have this incessant burning in my throat and need to blow my nose and cough... and for some inexplicable reason, some strange urge to cry.

I LOVE Halloween. Always have. And having kids has just given me reasons to play dress-up every year. Here's my kiddos... all dressed up for Trick or Treat. BabyGirl is Cinderella (she has this new found love for all things Cinderella... what an expensive interest this is... ahem... thankyouverymuch Disney Princesses) and Lil Man is our chubby lil fuzzy pumpkin. Take a look at his face. Isn't that expression classic? He was less than happy to see me dressed as a "sparkley sassy witch" and my pointy witch hat and glittery makeup made him cry plenty, (although Daddy seemed rather fond of it) and Lil Man was rather put off by his beloved big sissy's get-up, too... no matter how much she adored it and kept holding the edges of her dress out while spinning around and around-- exclaiming her love for her costume. Oh well... someday Lil Man will just resign himself to ignoring the array of goofy costumes and focus instead on the things that really count to lil boys: Obtaining buckets of CANDY... and the rare chance to carry a giant plastic sword... or sport ill fitting vampire fangs... and to use one or both against his big sister who will probably be prancing around like a prissy little princess, but who could dropkick him in a second if he really irritates her & her giggly friends. Speaking of frightening things, this Halloween is not short of 'em: Just take a brave gander here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here. To counteract those horrors, please sit back with a glass of warm mulled cider and proudly glance at this and this, and then celebrate the holiday as it was originally intended: No, it is not a liberal holiday of free handouts, thankyouverymuch Sean Insannity, it is "one last hurrah" before the deep cold sets in and remembering fondly your cherished dead loved ones. BabyGirl has been f-r-e-a-k-i-n-g out about the SoCal wildfires. After every newscast, she tosses a bazillion questions at me like: Why did that happen? Where will those people live? Are their cats and dogs alive? Where would we go if our house was on fire? Would we get our kitty out? etc... etc... It has gotten so bad, that Weds morning, she crawls into our bed around 3 am and keeps poking me until I say w/ great irritation a hushed yet very firm "WHAT???" I was grumpy because I had just gotten the baby back to sleep around 2 am.. and no, I did not sit him in one of these --an item that we happen to own and love, and apparently use very differently from other parents. Why? Fragile and very wiggly babies have apparently been put into their Bumbo seat... and then like a potted plant on a table, or counter, or toilet, or bookshelf, or stove, or car roof, or whatever else highly inappropriate place morons have stupidly dared to place their fragile and very wiggly babies upon... said babies have been allowed to fall off and sustain skull fractures. I guess all common sense, parental responsibility and reading the warning sticker that is stuck onto the chair gets to be tossed aside, and now we need a recall, huh? ... sigh... shaking head... Anyhoo... back to BabyGirl's first urgent question... she asks: "Mommy, will the paint on our house stop a fire?" Me: "We don't have paint on our house. Our house is made out of brick like the 3rd Little Pig's. Her: "Oh."... long silence... then: "Does that mean that no wolves with sharp teeth and claws can blow our house down?" Me: "Yep." Her: "What if a wolf has fire?" Me: (exasperated sigh while thinking damn this kid and her intelligent mind) "It means our house is very strong. It means we don't live in California, where they have wildfires. It is too wet and cold here to have those right now." Her: "Could we have them in the summer?" OMFG... I just had to eat a ton of omelets while pregnant with her because I read eggs were great brain food for fetuses, didn't I?? Me: "It means our house is pretty safe from wildfires because they don't usually happen in Ohio. It means that daddy makes sure we have lots of fire alarms and we've practiced what to do if you hear one of those go off." Her: "But what if the fire alarm's batteries don't work like my SpongeBob toy?"(yes.. we lied to our child when we took the batteries out of a very loud SpongeBob toy. This toy is very beloved, but if you squeeze him, his eyes bulge out and he exclaims very loudly: "I have 200/200 vision!" and she adored putting it in the face of her sleeping baby brother and scaring him to death.) Me: "The fire alarm batteries work. Daddy changes them every fall." Her: "Well, why doesn't he fix the batteries in my SpongeBob?" Me... lying yet again: "Because he just can't find those type of batteries... ANYWHERE. Daddy even thinks they stopped making those batteries." Silence... followed finally and very surprisingly by Hubby sleepily announcing: "Great job, honey. Just slap all the blame on me." Yes. I have zero qualms about passing the buck on that one. Anyhoo... try to forget the horrors of the wildfires and enjoy the loveliness of autumn in N.E. Ohio. My mom, and the kids and I walked around our neighborhoods and surrounding farm areas and took pix.

Hubby and I are off to celebrate our 8th wedding anniversary this weekend. We kicked things off by going to a pumpkin farm nearby. It is an annual outing, so we were excited to take Lil Man's pictures amongst the pumpkins, just as we were when we first took BabyGirl there a few yrs ago (yrs that have since flown by far toooo quickly... sob... sniff.) We were also especially happy that no unfortunate accidents befell us while there that might require us to seek the help of SCHIP. Because ya know, as a married middle class family with 2 kids, we don't happen to be BushCo's beloved oh-so rich folks who deserve massive tax breaks... err... deserve corporate handouts... err... deserve state assisted insurance for regular working class folks, who have the misfortune to happen upon a catastrophic illness or accident, and then private insurance dumps like a hot potato with the Black plague. But who knows... maybe if we're REALLY REALLY lucky... someday... Hillbilly Heroin Limbaugh will make fun of my kids on Hannity & colmes. Tonight, Hubby plans on getting me a bit inebriated, just in case The Tribe doesn't fare well at Fenway (or so he tells me...nudge, nudge... say no more, say no more.) But if that horrific event happens, I'm sure all of you will feel a strange feeling in the air. Just know that it is probably me... and it is really nothing to be alarmed about... unless you happen to be a member of the Red Sox... and you fear having a hex cast upon you. Cheers! See all of that green still left on the tree? THAT is not supposed to be there nearly 2 weeks into the month of October. But, when temperatures have been 85 degrees, I guess Mother Nature can't paint our foliage with her beautiful wand as she normally would. Yesterday, thank the stars, autumn seemed to finally blow into Ohio. It is currently 52 degrees, and BabyGirl and I have finally been able to bust out our new fall sweaters that we've been dying to wear since September. I know I should be ranting about this, this, this, this, this, this completely shameful wingnut attack, or this sickening and horrifying reality, but this weekend will be devoted to making chili, apple-oatmeal crisp, and watching baseball. Granted, eating and baseball are not of earthshattering importance, but right now I'd like to just sit back and watch something that is based upon actual rules. Where fair play is not only expected, it is required. Where there will be a victor... but guess what? Nobody will be killed or maimed, no nation will be laid to waste, and no shame is involved in the win. And guess what else? There will actually be a clear cut winner and competent plan for victory. And since the Cleveland Indians beat the blue striped piss outta the despicable NY Yankees, it appears that I will have plenty more to keep me captivated in the coming days as the Tribe will now advance to the American League Championship Series against the Red Sox. While I certainly hope that the Indians can pull out all the stops and take this run of good luck and talent all the way to the World Series, quite frankly, they could now lose every single game from here on out, and I'd still be dancing a jig because the really important prize was this: THEY BEAT the YANKEES!!! As of 11:00 am EST, the United Auto Workers went on strike. Why? Negotiations for healthcare benefits for their retired workers and their family members ... (ya know... the folks who worked their asses off their entire lives and paid into the system and deserve to finally reap the rewards)... fell thru. Call me crazy... but if we had universal healthcare, this particular strike could have been avoided. So, while these pretend pro-life Repukes are out demonizing folks like unions, pro- healthcare Dems (despite the fact that the Red States would benefit the most from universal healthcare), and The American Cancer Society for daring to announce that, they, too, think that universal healthcare is necessary for Americans, think about how the Auto Workers' fight for benefits for retired members and their family members is a really a fight for all of us. And in full disclosure: I am the daughter of a United Steelworker. I am the grand-daughter of a United Ironworker and a United Steelworker. I am the niece of a United Steelworker. See, the next 2 weeks are going to be crazy getting things in order for the start of BabyGirl's school on Sept 4th. And you have no idea how much it pains me to even write that sentence. MY baby will be starting school... OMG... I swear it was just yesterday that my gorgeous girl was born. So, in addition to getting things in order, I plan on spending oodles of time pretty much just having fun with my kiddos and Hubby. Let's face it: They will only be this small once, and as Sheryl Crow so wisely reminds us, "there ain't nothing like regret to remind us we're alive." I'll see ya sometime after Labor Day. God knows the Repukes will have committed plenty of sins that I will have to post about and I will have to purge my soul of the torment that I anticipate feeling when I have to... let... my... precious... girl... go... to... school. Oh yes. Those crazy-ass Duggars have procreated yet again, and get this: Less than 30 minutes after giving birth, the Duggars already were talking of having more.

Now, I've said my piece about this crazy-ass family before, but here's the thing: I'm 100% for reproductive freedom. And as much as I poke fun at them for treating one's vagina like a clown car... being 100% for reproductive freedom means they have the right to do so as much as I believe I also have every right to stop at 2 kids... because honest to Pete, nearly dying twice during my 2 very wanted pregnancies was enough for our marriage and family, not to mention our wallets and savings account, thankyouverymuch. But unfortunately, these "Quiverfull" Republican freaks do not reciprocate that same freedom sentiment. Their ultimate goal is not really to get rid of abortion. No no. That is just the scary- emotional- in- your-face- issue. The real goal of these Quiverfull folks is to "build an army for God" and getting rid of contraceptives completely... including for married couples... because ya know, as never been married and childless nutbags like Ann Coulter spew: Privacy rights between a man and wife is a right that liberals just made up. I don't know about you, but some outsider intervening in my marriage threatens my marriage, and NO ONE has the right to threaten the bond that I have with my husband. NO ONE. I don't care how "holier than thou" you claim to be. I not only take my love, friendship and relationship with Hubby deadly seriously, I also take our wedding vows that we spoke to each other and in front of God and others deadly seriously, too. What was I thinking? The holy city, long a dream for Domino's Pizza billionaire wingnut Tom Monaghan, is probably one of Pope Benny's wet dreams... if he were allowed to have them, that is. The Yahoo News tape about the city showed a young couple who raced to Ave Maria to buy up 1 of the 11,000 homes. When asked if they would be okay with a gay couple buying a house next door to them.... a p-a-i-n-f-u-l silence.... followed by a meek: "Yeah, sure." Call me crazy, but this town won't allow porn, abortions, and contraceptives... somehow I'm thinking that Bryan and Ryan's home purchase will not be met with a neighborly rainbow "welcome" cake. Especially when you consider that Tom Monaghan is real tight with this gay-bashin'/ woman hatin' priest. You have to read the April 07 Huffington post article it comes from to get the gist of it, but as you can guess, the GOP hatred of providing every American citizen with healthcare goes way back to the time when Harry Truman (yep... another Dem) proposed universal healthcare for Americans. I Tivo'ed it, and I guess giving Moore this hour to discuss this massively critical issue kinda sorta makes up for Chris Matthews letting Ann Coulter spew her insane vomit and twitch nervously in the hot sun as she tried not to think of that itchy duct tape that holds down her dick that is taped to her thigh underneath of that dirty black dress of her's. Kinda sorta. I also watched the Dem's "YouTube" debate on CNN tonight, and by and large, the debate left me feeling proud to be a part of the party that faces REALITY and TRUTH with the FACTS most of the time. I think Hillary won (she was more than ready for every question and answered the questions completely) and how refreshing was it that there were no shameful scenes of folks raising their hands to be counted as those candidates for Prez who do not believe in evolution and/or hate gay folks? Since we're talking about universal rights for all, what about John Edwards?... who may have oh-so important "gee your hair smells terrific" hair... *yawn*... but I believe this shows that there is hope that he's evolving on the issue of gay marriage. If he were a Repuke, I'd say that kind of evolution on an issue would be as likely to happen as me seeing THIS alongside the road. Hey... speaking of vets getting nuthin but screwed (ya would have had to click on that last link to understand), how exactly are the Chickenhawks gonna explain the GOP= support for the troops when the Iraq war vets are forced to SUE the head of the VA for denying them disability pay and mental health treatment? Ummm... lemme guess: They will do what Romney has said about Katrina and shake their fingers and say: "Look America, this is why we just can't trust the govt to handle healthcare." Of course, they don't offer us a plan for healthcare other than "get sick and die, ya lousy peasants" and forget the shameful fact that the US would finally join every other first world nation by providing universal healthcare. I wanna ask these GOPers this: How come it is perfectly acceptable for Iraq to have universal healthcare as a guaranteed right according to their Constitution, yet doing so in the USA would make us... *whisper now*... socialists? Yes, wanting to better ALL of society, not just the wealthiest of society, is socialism, and I'm damned proud to support that. If you don't want ALL of America to be educated, prosper and be healthy, WTF is wrong with you? Why do you hate America and her citizenry? Besides, all of that, 60% of all health care expenditures are already being sponsored in some way, either directly or indirectly through subsidy, by the federal govt by providing benefits to all of those folks on Medicare, Medicaid, veterans, and subsidies to public hospitals and clinics. So, we working class stiffs pay thru the nose for our own insurance PLUS we pay w/our taxes for the 60% who get socialized care from the feds... YET we don't get to enjoy socialized care ourselves?? Niiice. I wish someone... anyone... on the Dems side would scream these facts from the rooftops. Especially when we're pretty pissed off... which since BushCo slithered into office... is way too often. Now truth be told, InvisbleWmn JuBlue nabbed me a while back for this award, but I didn't get back to her... even though she makes me think plenty when I visit her place. 1.) So, I will name The Invisible Woman as one of my 5 blogs that make me think, but of course, she doesn't have to play tag along with me because she was just tagged. JuBlue can tell a story like few can, and she blends humor and wiseass-cracks with truth like no other. 2.) The next place that never ceases to amaze me is Tennessee Guerilla Women. They dish the dirt like few can... and they always nail the GOP with the Republicans' worst enemies: Reality and Facts. 3.) Diva Jood at Journeys with Jood is my 3rd pick of blogs that always makes me think. She can make me laugh, cry, and get pissed all in the course of reading only one post... and I cherish that. 4.) Enigma 4Ever at Watergate Summer... (oh yes... E is back from her rest and respite... and she is better than ever)... is my 4th pick. She is another strong mommy/blogger/ activist who is an amazing story teller and she can nail GOPers like few can with her mighty pen, and I admire that in a fellow redhead. 5.) My 5th blog choice is SheaNC at Constantly Amazed, yet Never Surprised. Shea's comments never fail to amuse me, as do his posts. I see that our great Emperor Bush has declared executive privilege when it comes to his "girls" Harriet Myers and Sara Taylor being called to the Hill to testify. And I also see that the D.C. Madam, who was in charge of few girls of her own, finally released her phone records.... and guess what crept out of the slime? The phone number of Republican Senator David Vitter from Louisiana, who did in fact cop to the "sins" of using this escort service: "This was a very serious sin in my past for which I am, of course, completely responsible. Several years ago, I asked for and received forgiveness from God and my wife in confession and marriage counseling. Out of respect for my family, I will keep my discussion of the matter there — with God and them. But I certainly offer my deep and sincere apologies to all I have disappointed and let down in any way," Vitter said in a written statement late Monday night. Aaaw. Isn't it sweet how he just had to bring up God after the fact? Now personally, I DO care about Bush not letting us in on the lies of his personal whores, but I DON'T care who seeks the services of a real whore. Actually, hookers are way more respectable and honest than most politicians on any day. But what does bowl me over is the stench of hypocrisy from this holier than thou GOP ass and his wife. Ya see, in 2005, Vitter attacked 'the Hollywood left' for "redefining the most basic institution in human history." And just last June, Vitter stood up and announced that THE SINGLE most important issue facing Americans was gay marriage. Not the war. Not healthcare. Not bankruptcies and foreclosures. But gay marriage. Now I'm no expert, but I am a married hetero, and I would think that one of the things that really does in a straight marriage is banging a hooker, not Bryan and Ryan leading a life of legal wedded bliss. In fact, just hear what Vitter's own wife had to say about married men cheating... married men like Bill Clinton: "Vitter's wife, Wendy, was asked by the Newhouse reporter: If her husband were as unfaithful as former President Bill Clinton, would she be as forgiving as Hillary Rodham Clinton? Her response: "I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary. If he does something like that, I’m walking away with one thing, and it’s not alimony, trust me." Hmm, Vitter claims he told her and God all about his hooker romp. Wonder if he did that while wearing chain maille undies? Oh and the hypocrisy gets even worse: Vitter was only able to became a senator when he filled the seat vacated by Rep. Bob Livingston, who was headed toward the House speakership in 1998 but was stopped when he was forced to reveal his marital infidelities... AND... Vitter receives a 100% voting record rate with the folks who really know hypocrisy and hate... err... GOP morals: The Christian Coalition. The hypocrisy just never ends, does it? Oh well, at least he wasn't caught sexually harassing teenage pages, seeking well endowed guys online, falsely obtaining a White House press pass when you are actually a gay escort, or going on a meth fueled sex rampage with a gay hooker. But what I'm really wondering is this: How exactly will the "party of family values" blame this on Clinton?
UPDATE: I somehow missed THIS lil golden nugget of info while researching Vitter for this post: Vitter decided to run for governor of LA... BUT... in June 2002, shortly before the Louisiana Weekly ran a story about Vitter's alleged relationship with a prostitute, Vitter dropped out of the governor's race, saying he and his wife were dealing with marital problems. "Our marriage counseling sessions have ... led us to the rather obvious conclusion that it's not time to run for governor." Not time to run for gov? Maybe once you're finished with getting your whistle blown by a hooker you could devote more of that precious time to a gov's campaign, huh? But wait... there is more: When the allegations surfaced again in 2004 about Vitter's lengthy affair with known French Quarter prostitute Wendy Cortez, Vitter said this: "I think you know that that allegation is absolutely and completely untrue. I have said that on numerous occasions. I'll say that in any forum. Unfortunately, that's just crass Louisiana politics, now that I am running for the Senate. I have made that clear that it is all completely untrue. And, it's obviously politically motivated." Uh yeah... one hooker/ one time might be forgiven. It seems that in addition to being a colossal moron and creator of clusterfucks, we can now add pussified and pissing in his pants Republican chickenhawk to his list: "A secret military operation in early 2005 to capture senior members of Al Qaeda in Pakistan’s tribal areas was aborted at the last minute after top Bush administration officials decided it was too risky and could jeopardize relations with Pakistan, according to intelligence and military officials." Tagged... what to do.... what to do?

So... I've been tagged by Lola Heatherton. One would think that dear Lola would be waaay too busy bearing some man's child, but alas, she has tagged me :) Here are the rules about this tag, and here are 8 things about me that I'm pretty sure most of you don't know about me:

1. Although I have never ever learned how to swim (I had a horrific near drowning experience in Lake Erie) as a child, I used to pretend that I was a mermaid in the bathtub. I would keep my legs crossed to resemble a mermaid fin for my ENTIRE bath. As you can guess, my mom had to intervene at the end of my mermaid soak to... ahem... wash the nether regions... and to help me up out of our old fashioned claw-foot bathtub because after keeping my legs fused together for so long, agility was next to nil.

2. Despite all of my bitching about the Church, I am a devoted Catholic to our Blessed Mother, and my 2 most fav saints: Mary Magdalene and Jude. In fact, both of my kiddos have some kind of variation of those saints in their names.

3. When asked as a kid "what did I want to be when I grew up?" I wanted to be one of 3 things... all of which my mother informed me I could NOT be because nice girls didn't become such things: 1) A belly dancer. 2) A hockey player. 3) A flamenco dancer.

4. Before I met my husband, my mother and I lit a novena together to help allow me to end my relationship with my then REALLY bad boyfriend and to open the cosmic door to a really good man whom I could love, respect, marry and have children with. 2 weeks after lighting that candle and praying, I got hired at the place where I met my husband. 1 year (total time) after meeting, we were married. Coincidence?... or Fate??

5. I used an ovulation monitor to conceive both of my children. It took us 8 months of using the monitor to conceive BabyGirl. It took us only 1 month of using the monitor to conceive Lil Man. I was nearly 5 yrs older when I conceived him from the time when I conceived BabyGirl (just after Sept 11th). I guess that whole "your eggs are drying up as we speak after age 30" is crapola, huh? And of course, I spent the extra money to buy the 3 month supply of test sticks for the monitor because I just "knew" it would take us several months to conceive again... sigh...

6. I have never ever voted for a Republican. Even if I despise the Dem who is running against them. NEVER EVER.

7. My husband and I have "christened" every single vehicle we have owned... unless of course your name is Mike P. and you bought Hubby's 1991 Firebird off of us this spring... then... Forget the fact that Bush 41 said leakers are traitors and Bush 43 said any leakers would be taken care of. Forget the fact that 70% of Americans do NOT want Scooter Libby pardoned. And forget the fact that Pres Bill Clinton and former Cheney aide Scooter Libby were both found guilty of perjury. Both men were investigated by a Republican appointed special prosecutor (Ken Starr and Patrick Fitzgerald ). Both men were "judged" by Republicans (Bush appointed Judge Reggie Walton and the then Republicans in the House of Reps). One man, a married man and father, lied about having an extramartial affair with an intern who consensually and according to her own words, happily blew the Prez, whom she claimed to be in love with. Whom did Clinton's lies hurt? His wife and his daughter. One man, a lawyer and an advocate of preemptive war against Iraq since 1992, happily lied about blowing the cover of an undercover CIA agent in an attempt to crush the only correct critic (at the time) of the Bush White House's propaganda to toss us into a war. Whom did Scooter's lies hurt? The undercover CIA agent. Her war critic husband. Any and all of her undercover contacts. Her small children. Her immediate family members. Our nation, which was desperately relying upon undercover intelligence to help us avoid more terror attacks. All of the 1000s upon 1000s of dead and wounded US troops and Iraqis who have been killed and/or maimed as a result of this trumped up war that NEVER EVER should have been launched in the first place. And THE TRUTH, because by giving Scooter a free pass, we the people will NEVER EVER know the truth about all of those pre-war lies. So, the real question is this: If Scooter Libby were to get down on his knees and lie about blowing President Bush, would those perjury charges stick? Would Bush even dare to speak of pardons and commuting sentences? Would the Washington Post openly weep for poor lil Scooter who openly colluded with the White House to toss us into this war? Would Republicans then finally cheer and applaud "law and order" for Scooter's perjury lies as they did when Clinton lied about cheating on his wife? I guess all it takes is a blowjob. Who knew? Bill O'Reilly blames the dead wife of murdering wrestler Chris Benoit and the dead pregnant girlfriend of cheating and murdering cop Bobby Cutts for THEIR OWN MURDERS. Oh yes. These women are somehow responsible for the murderous plans carried out by these men against themselves and the men's own biological children. I guess they should've exhausted their mind-reading skills to avoid being murdered by men who claimed to love them and their own kids. Well, I'd like to blame Bill's infected and dessicated butt plug for his obvious insanity... but I'm no medical expert. 2.) On Hardball, a perfectly healthy young Republican man (who was holding up a "Marry me Ann" sign) asked this question of Ann Coulter: "Harry Reid, Senate majority leader, Democrat obviously, has said the war is lost. He bragged about killing the Patriot Act. I didn‘t hear a peep out of him when we killed Zarqawi. Why aren‘t more Republicans calling the Democrats out on their apparent enthusiasm to lose the war?" Umm, while I dare not even begin to think that I can speak for Ann, I have to say firstly, how can you ask Ann to marry you, young man? I thought you people were against gay marriage. Secondly, Harry Reid wasn't the only one who said the war is lost. These guys said it. And so did this guy. And they are all military men. Thirdly, killing Zarawi has accomplished WHAT exactly? Violence and US troop deaths have only INCREASED since that guy was snuffed out. Taking him out has done what for us in Iraq? Fourthly, since we're talking about Iraq, you appear to be a perfectly healthy strapping boy who simply hearts the war. You aren't in combat boots in the middle of Baghdad WHY exactly? Oh that's right. Because chickenhawk douchebags like yourself might have to face guys like this poor bastard. Fifthly, Repukes aren't calling out Dems for losing this war because they know that their party's stranglehold rule for the past 6 yrs and their own beloved despot, King "you can't subpoena me" Clueless and his crazy-ass "I'm neither in the Executive nor the Legislative Branch" co-pilot Cheney, are 100% responsible for that. 3.) The Catholic Church is 100% insane... no, really: Human-animal hybrid embryos conceived in the laboratory (so-called “chimeras”) should be regarded as human and their mothers should be allowed to give birth to them and should be able to raise them as their own children if they wish, the Catholic Church said Tues. For fuck's sake, rather than eliminate those tax cuts and making rich folks live at Clinton level tax rates, let's just keep digging that ceaseless hole that my kids' grandkids will inherit. 5.) 24 House Dems voted "no" to defunding the office of Cheney the FourthBranch. On Dec 19, 1998, the House of Reps passed 2 articles of impeachment against William Jefferson Clinton... for lying about an extramarital blowjob. Compare that to just some of the crimes of Cheney. Truly un-fuckingbelievable. 6.) Mitt Romney, while travelling with his family yrs ago, strapped the family dog... to the top of their station wagon. BabyGirl's 5th Birthday & Cheating, Murdering Canton, Ohio Cop Kills Pregnant Mom... trust me: It somehow all ties together

Sorry I've been such an absentee blogger, but I do have my reasons. Firstly, I was busy planning, purchasing, and readying up the house for BabyGirl's 5th birthday party that took place this past Saturday. We usually have a small birthday celebration, but just as we did with her 1st b-day, we had a much bigger affair b/c let's face it: My kiddo will never be quite the same after this b-day. Why? Because she will be leaving my safety net and going to school... and bringing home all kinds of influences... good and bad. It just makes me feel so sad... and helpless. Don't get me wrong. I understand that she has to grow up and flourish and that it my job as her parent to help that process along. I just didn't think it would happen so quickly and so soon. I love my BabyGirl so much that until Lil Man was born, I didn't think I could love and want to protect anyone so fiercely. I'm afraid to let her go out into the world where I can't always protect her and keep her safe from all harm... especially when things like this are happening... in the very town I grew up in. Which leads to my second reason for not blogging: This unspeakably horrific Scott Petersonesque crime took place in the town I grew up in at the hands of 1 of the town's cops. A cop who stated that he absolutely had nothing to do w/his pregnant mistress' disappearance and that he hoped she would be found alive. Ya know... the very people who are supposed to serve and protect. My sister graduated from high school with this cheating and murdering cop. My parents watched the search-crew helipcopters fly over their township's neigborhood again and again. Why? The cheating and murdering cop lives merely 2 streets over from them. The grocery store, where the pregnant mom and her 2 yr old son were last seen and photographed at, is the same place where my parents shop weekly and where my niece works as a checkout girl. Don't get me wrong, this town has crimes and murders. But not like this. As a mom & sister, I can't even begin to think of what her family is going thru. As a woman who just gave birth 3 months ago, I can't even begin to fathom how the father of the 2 yr old son/ witness to the murder and unborn baby girl could kill the mother of his children. If he didn't want to pay for yet another child (he has at least 4 children to 3 different women) he should have kept it zipped up. When the announcement was made early Sat. evening that the murdering cop had been arrested, we were lighting BabyGirl's b-day candles and making happy wishes for one more yr. I'm sure that Jessie Davis' mom would give anything to see her daughter have another b-day or see her unborn granddaughter even HAVE a b-day. And here's another thing: Ya see, while I did not know the dead mom personally, I did know the family of one the ex-girlfriends/ baby mamas of the cheating and murdering cop, and a friend of my BFF knows the cheated-on wife of the cheating and murdering cop. These are not freaky women who could be guests on Jerry Springer... well, okay... maybe being one of the maaaany women who has a kid with Shawn Kemp does qualify for Springer, but I digress. These are, by and large, just regular middle-class women from decent upbringings who made bad decisions and got involved with this murdering cop. And that, my friends is what makes my blood run cold. My BabyGirl will be a regular middle-class girl from a decent upbringing. Will she meet a guy like that? Could she get sucked into a cheating and murdering mess like this? Will she be a tragic victim of crime? And will any of the Canton area citizens ever feel safe to call the cops in times of need when an abusive and manipulative murderer is on the force? All of this makes me want to search for a magical potion that will stunt my kiddo's growth and keep her safe... sitting on the couch... smiling next to her tiny baby brother. A tiny baby brother, who (despite suffering the indignity of being photographed in BabyGirl's pink and girlie hand-me-down bib) already loves his big sissy so much, that the mere sound of her soft litle girl voice whispering to him makes him smile like that when he's sound asleep. Sheldon actively lobbies against hate crime legislation because according to him, hate crime legislation will be "used by homosexual activists to punish any person who has the courage to speak out against the recruitment of children by homosexuals." Here we go again: The Vatican has urged all Catholics to stop donating money to Amnesty International, accusing the human rights group of promoting abortion. Amnesty said it was not promoting abortion as a universal right. Amnesty says it does not take any position on whether abortion is right or wrong. But it defended its new position in support of abortion for women when their health is in danger or human rights are violated, especially in cases of rape or incest. I'm sure at least 5 of our Supreme Crt Justices broke out the karaoke machine to belt out Ave Maria and a kegger of the Blood of Christ to celebrate this anti-Amnesty news. Because really, who the hell cares if women die due to pregnancy? Who cares if women must endure the unimaginable horror of a rape-baby? Call me crazy, but for a guy who never gets any, Pope Benny sure spends a WHOLE LOTTA time obsessing about folks who do. Why does he spend so much time galavanting around the world urging others to be excommunicated if they dare to support choices for women's health? 70,000 women die per year due to illegal abortions. How many of these men will sit back and watch their loved one be forced to carry a rapist's child to term? Will these men be expected to pay for the rapist's child? Give the rapist's child insurance benefits? Give the rapist's child his surname? And what about the rapist? Does he pay child support? Get visitation rights? And think about this: With visitation rights, it just might be the rapist's lucky day because then he can perhaps rape his own children and continue the "beautiful tradition", huh? No thanks Sen. But c'mon... it is only a 5 hr drive south of us, so why not piss away an afternoon on such utter shyte? Ya know... studying the enemy. Keith's recap is especially revealing when you toss in the recent frightening outcry by the head of the Arkansas GOP that what America needs is just some good old fashioned terror attacks on U.S. soil to get us citizens rallying behind Pres McClusterfuck and his utterly failed war. Whoa. Now I don't feel guilty at all for devoting most of my recent concerns to figuring out if Hubby and I should "redshirt" BabyGirl from kindergarten when school starts in late August instead of fretting over yet another "Bush, the Mighty Savior, saved-us again" terror plot. Ya see, BabyGirl turns 5yrs old in late June, and we asked our pediatrician what she thought, and she recommends holding back "summer birthday 5 yr olds" because so much rides on No Child Left Behind testing, and so many other parents hold their kids back even when their 5 olds aren't summer birthdays... which creates an entire group of kids who are one year older and advanced, one year more mature, and one year more physically developed than a just turned 5 yr old. Hubby and I have been mulling this over for at least a year now and we haven't decided what to do... but sending her to Catholic school kindergarten just may be the route we choose. If she doesn't thrive as we think we she should (she is a V-E-R-Y smart cookie, but she is physically smaller than most of her peers and she is often very afraid of unfamiliar situations/ people/ places/ routines, etc which can be perceived as social akwardness) we can always have her repeat much smaller class size Catholic school kindergarten without the heavy stigma that repeating a grade in public school carries with it. We haven't decided yet what to do... and we have to meet with the Catholic school kindergarten teachers in the coming weeks to discuss BabyGirl's options. But I know one thing I won't be doing this summer: Pissing my pants over more Bush fearmongering. Besides, if we have anything to truly fear, it is the GOP who eagerly salivates like a Komodo dragon over the idea of terror attacks wiping plenty of us out for the sake of their evil Empty Headed Emperor.

Because let's face it, what other option do we have at this point? Victory? Don't make me laugh. So, I'm up late with a VERY cranky Lil Man and BabyGirl. He received his first series of vaccines Weds afternoon, and she received her pre-kindergarten vaccines. Both, despite ample doses of kiddie Tylenol and oodles of hugs and kisses, do not feel very good at all and sleep is not an option. Crying, wimpering, and clinging to me is, apparantly, the only option for both. So, while doing my Mommy Nightengale duties, I am perusing thru online news on my laptop, and I come across this stunning piece of news via Army Times: "The House Armed Services Committee recommends a 3.5% pay increase for 2008, and increases in 2009 thru 2012 that also are 0.5% point greater than private-sector pay raises. The slightly bigger military raises are intended to reduce the gap between military and civilian pay that stands at about 3.9% today. Under the bill, HR 1585, the pay gap would be reduced to 1.4% after the Jan. 2012, pay increase. Bush budget officials said the administration “strongly opposes” both the 3.5% raise for 2008 and the follow-on increases, calling extra pay increases “unnecessary.” Hmm... I wonder if this guy, a 20 yr old young man, who gave his face to Bush's unnecessary war while trapped for 20 mins in a fiery ammunition truck in Iraq, thinks that he deserves a 3.5% pay raise? First, the Prez sends our troops into this clusterfuck of choice for reasons based upon complete lies. Then he makes sure that he wings this clusterfuck of choice on the cheap in terms of piss poor armored equipment and inadequate troop numbers, plus inadequately training them for urban warfare, and not preparing them for dealing with a completely foreign culture. Next, we have Abu Ghraib, Walter Reed, and Bush's veto that would have brought the troops home. What more proof does America need that Bush and his party have never supported the troops? They send them to die for a policy that was doomed at Neo-Con conception. They won't treat their injuries when they return. They won't support their families when they die. And now they refuse to give them a pay raise for their service. Yet the Prez and the GOP are supposedly the only ones who possess patriotism and support our troops. I guess all of that love and support comes from a place called the Department of Irony, huh?

This weekend, I plan on spending my time with my kiddos and Hubby, but I also wanted to wish a Happy Mother's Day to all moms... and to my Hubby: Thank you for creating our amazing and beautiful BabyGirl and Lil Man with me. I'm so happy you made me your wife and babies' Mama :) But this year, let's please keep in mind, as we celebrate this holiday, what the real push behind Mother's Day really was: It was originally started after the Civil War, as a protest to the carnage of that bloody war, by bereaved women who had lost their loved ones and who then became determined to fight for peace. So, read up on this history of Mother's Day, squeeze your mom and your own children a little tighter, and think of all of the mothers who are bereaved now due to the horrific decisions BushCo has made in his incompetent quest for bloodlust and Imperialism. But to all the mothers who have been unfortunate enough to suffer a loss in Iraq or Afghanistan, please never forget that NOBODY suffers more watching the carnage of this war than poor little Laura and Dubya.

According to a new study released by Save the Children: "Iraq’s child mortality rate has increased by a staggering 150% since 1990. Some 122,000 Iraqi children died in 2005 before reaching their fifth birthday. More than half of these deaths were among newborn babies in the first month of life." Under the age of 5 and newborns?? Whoa. Given that kids this young are NOT able to be sexually active or live a gay lifestyle, even the most hardcore foaming at the mouth wingnut would be hard-pressed to "justify" the deaths of those Iraqi kids, huh? Personally, as a fellow human being and mom of a newborn AND a 4 yr old, these facts are sickening and utterly staggering to me. Now, even if you happen to accept Walter Russell Mead's "invade Iraq" argument that went thusly: If you accept that 50,000 kids a year die from the sanctions then waiting 10 years for Saddam to leave means you are willing to let 500,000 kids die...... then it sure looks like we are going to do that in a hell of a lot less time, eh? Talk about a stunning pro-life accomplishment for Bush and his Repuke base, huh? Oh well... they're just lil brown Muslim kids, right? But jeeze... ya gotta wonder how this new study can pass the "pro-life" race and religion test even for the mouthbreathing Bush crowd: "A new study in the May 15 issue of American Jrnl of Epidemiology found that when deployments began, reports of emotional, physical and sexual abuse and child neglect quickly jumped from 5 in 1,000 children to 10 in 1,000. The study found that victims were typically age 4 or younger and the abuser was usually the parent who remained at home while a spouse was deployed. Military families had lower rates of child maltreatment than civilian families before war. The study found that abuse rates soared when parents were sent to active duty." For the record, the 3 asshat zealots who raised their hands when asked by Matthews were Brownback, Tancredo and Huckabee. Oh what a shock: Mr. "I want all laws based upon the Bible b/c I'm a Dominionist" Brownback (who was converted to Catholicism by uber Opus Dei wingnut and freaky deaky fetus fondler Rick Santorum) doesn't believe in evolution. Snoozing, Sepsis, and Sexism

Aaaww... look at the peaceful sleep of the innocent. This pix of me holding a snoozing Lil Man was taken by Hubby at about 4:30am. As I'm sure you can guess, the only people snoozing at our house are BabyGirl and Lil Man. Hubby and I at this point are completely functioning sleep-deprived zombies. Oh well... it could be worse. I could be back in the hospital. Because you see, a mere week after giving birth to Lil Man, I developed a 104 degree fever and severe chills. Hubby promptly called my OB/GYN and took me to the hospital where upon I was admitted for a week of nonstop IV treatment with antibiotics. Have you ever read a historical novel and the mom who just gave birth dies a few days or weeks after giving birth from "childbirth fever"? Well, that is precisely what I had. Childbirth fever... or sepsis as we call it today. It appears that when I ripped rather badly during the pushing part of labor that nasty E coli bacteria entered my bloodstream and the slow but deadly poisoning of my entire body began. My OB/GYN informed me that I must be pretty damn healthy b/c people who develop sepsis have about a 30% mortality rate. I have 2 things to say: Thank the Gods that I have health insurance, and thank the Gods that I had my children in the 21st century b/c with either child and pregnancy I would have surely died, whether from kidney failure due to toxemia while pregnant w/ BabyGirl or due to the uncontrolled blood pressure, compression of my vena cava during labor, or post partum sepsis w/ Lil Man. All of this pregnancy and post partum stuff, in combination w/the always disgusting and sexist Don Imus ooh-laa-laa this past week, has lead me to one conclusion: Women are anything but weak and inferior to men, so why do guys feel so utterly comfortable tossing sexist crap at half of the world's population? Here's an example: Ya see, I have always felt that calling someone (especially a guy) a "pussy" to denote their weakness is an absurd paradox b/c a pussy is not an object that is insulting. Not only that, but from my point of view, a pussy is anything but weak. Pussies not only are the only things capable of growing and bringing forth new life into this world, but they also hold the very powerful position of determining who gets laid in this world. Honestly, what part of a male's anatomy could possibly compare to that?? So, the next time an old colostemy bag like Imus wants to insult women, he needs to seriously thank his lucky stars that a woman brought him into this world, and praise the heavens that any woman would actually have sex with him and give birth to his offspring, let alone-- as his wife-- tolerate having to listen to his insulting spew day in and day out . Think about it... you may not be comfortable w/ my unabashed and liberal usage of the word pussy, but ya know that the point I make about the power of the pussy is correct. Now... I'm off to cuddle with my sweet and chubby Lil Man (who of course had better never dare to treat women as Don Imus has) and hug my fiesty BabyGirl, who will drop-kick any guy who dares to use sexist words towards her, and kiss my openly feminist Hubby, who happily loves and adores women.

Late March 18th... Coming in at 8 lbs 4 oz, 22 inches in length... IT'S a BOY!

Yes. 8 lbs 4 oz and 22 inches in length. Imagine how freaking big Lil Man would have been if I had remained pregnant for 4 more weeks! So....... After spending all of St. Patty's Day hooked up to IV drips that were supposed to send me into active labor and saying prayers that a C-section was NOT gonna happen, my OB/GYN was forced to take more aggressive actions (much stronger drugs, breaking my water & a cervical catheter to force dilation) on Sunday, the 18th. The result? All talk of a C-section was put aside b/c it did finally kick me into active labor late Sunday and after an hour of pushing, the baby was nearly out... nearly out. But then something very unexpected happened. In the middle of pushing, the room started spinning and I developed tunnel vision. NOT GOOD. I grabbed onto my labor and delivery nurse and told her that the room was spinning and that everything was starting to go black. The way this nurse started yelling for the doctor told me that this was REALLY NOT GOOD. A whole roomful of folks showed up in seconds and my OB/GYN told me that the baby was putting too much pressure on my vena cava artery and that I was not getting blood and oxygen to my brain. REALLY REALLY NOT GOOD. So, suddenly forceps appeared outta nowhere, the good doctor told me to wait to push b/c he was going to use the forceps to ease the baby out, but before any of that could take place, I had a h-u-g-e contraction and despite having next to no breath or strength left, I pushed as hard I could and thank the stars above... Lil Man finally popped out and no forceps were used... and as best as I can tell... I suffered no brain damage from being oxygen and blood deprived. Or as my smart ass Hubby put it: "You're not more retarded now than you were before, sweetie." He is so not getting any... EVER AGAIN.
